MY REVIEW OF "SILVER THREADS" by BETTE LEE CROSBY

"Silver Threads by Bette Lee Crosby is such an enchanting and delightful heartwarming read. I read this in one sitting, and was so engrossed. "Silver Threads" is the fifth in the Memory House Series, and it is the only book that I have read and I look forward to reading all of the others. This was able to be read as a stand alone. The genres for this book are Fiction and Women's Fiction with a touch of "Magical Essence."

A description of this book says"High Above the clouds in a place not mortal has ever seen, there is a Scale of Life that is held in Balance with Stones of Happiness and Sorrow." In another description it says, "The Keeper of the Stones Smiled" "Since the beginning of time, He and he alone has been challenged with the task each person's scale in balance"."There are silver threads that crisscross the landscape of scales"..."and even the Keeper of the Scale can control the events traveling through those threads"

The author describes the characters as complex and complicated as the circumstances dictate. There are good and evil people. Drew his young daughter Brooke are mourning Jennifer, his wife, and her mother who was killed in a shoot-out in a pharmacy. It is very difficult for Drew to balance his work and be both parents to his young daughter, who is extremely distraught and is afraid to be alone without her father.

It becomes necessary after troubling events, for Drew and his daughter to sell and move away from their home. They stop at the "Memory House" and seem to find some peace there, while looking for a home closer to Drew's job. It seems that they get to meet some wonderful friends, and possibly things are looking up?! What does the Balance Keeper of the Stones see or have to say?

The author weaves her tale around good and evil. I love that the author discusses the importance of family, friends. loyalty, trust, love, hope , trust and faith. One of my favorite characters is Brooke, who as a child has been through so much, and yet seems to have the voice of an adult. I would highly recommend this novel to those readers that appreciate an emotional and heartwarming story. I look forward to reading more of Bette Lee Crosby's books. ( )

I just finished reading this book and can't believe how powerful the writing is. The author grabbed my attention right away and I found myself reading as fast as I could. The story captures a tragedy that no family wants to face. I fell in love with Brooke right away. She is a sweet little girl who has a happy life until one day her world is shattered. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to face your child and tell them news that will break their heart. The author does a great job of showing the emotional turmoil Brooke goes through. I wanted to hug Brooke and cry with her. The emotions in this book are so raw and reach deep into your heart and tear it piece by piece.

Drew I thought was at first a little distant from his family , but really came to be a man who loved his daughter deeply. Everyone grieves in their own way and I think for Drew it was hard to care for Brooke while trying to keep his emotions under control. I loved when Drew makes the decision to move away from all the hurt and takes his daughter to a new place to start over.

I was fascinated by the thread and the Keeper of the Scales. We encounter people in our lives that somehow seem to fit and make our lives more enjoyable. When Drew and Brooke find themselves at The Memory House Inn I wanted to stay there as well. What a wonderful place to feel loved and relaxed. There is a bit of suspense in the book which I found to be very well written. I didn't see it coming and thought it added a sense of closing a chapter in the lives of Brooke and Drew. I am so impressed with the writing style and how the author can breathe life into a character with words. I became invested in Brooke and Drew right away and found the ending to be a perfect way to thread their lives from sorrow to happiness.

I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion. ( )

When Drew Bishop gets the phone call any spouse would dread, he never knew how awful things would be.

Drew's wife, Jennifer, was shot during a robbery simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The robber, Tom, had a twin that was in prison for worse crimes. When the twin, Eddie, was released, the evil continued where they had left off because Eddie wanted revenge for the death of his brother.

The characters in SILVER THREADS were all lovable, gentle, and people you would love to have in your life except for Eddie who caused grief.
The little that we read of Jennifer showed her to be the best mother, wife, and person anyone could wish for.

Brooke was a sweet girl who had to deal with the loss of her mother who was her very best friend.

A life without her mother is extremely traumatizing for Brooke as she tries to work her way through it all and as her father tries to be both mother and father and still make a living.

Ms. Crosby's books are filled with love and family and carry a theme of a sweetness for life. You are pulled in as always by the story line and the characters.

Ms. Crosby’s books are filled with goodness and a zest for life and knows how to turn bad into good. I needed tissues for some of the parts because they were such heartwarming situations.

SILVER THREADS was a beautiful, heartfelt read as all of her books are.

Don’t miss reading yet another touching, uplifting book by Ms. Crosby. 5/5

This book was given to me free of charge and without compensation by the author in return for an honest review. ( )

After young mother and wife Jennifer Green is killed in a robbery gone bad, her husband and child struggle to pick up the pieces and go on. Struggling with their grief, they end up at Memory House, where they meet Annie, finding the love and comfort they need to cope with what life has thrown at them, as the magic of this house helps them heal. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, but I think it would have been an even better read for me had I read all the previous books in the series. I have read one but not the rest, and will now go back to re-read the one I have read as well as the others and will also re-read this one, as I think it will make more of an impact on me after this. I found the idea of the silver thread that may or may not cross our lives, which is controlled by The Keeper of the Scales, a fascinating idea around which to craft the book. In addition, the characters were beautifully done, as was the overall story line and theme. The story touched me in many different ways, as it will other readers. I love the idea of finding love and comfort in the memory house to help you go on when you cannot seem to find it yourself. I think other readers will enjoy this book. It is a bit different, though in a truly delightful way. I received this from Library Thing to read and review. ( )

A special thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Bette Lee Crosby continues her Memory House Series following Baby Girl (2016) with SILVER THREADS (Book 5) - the keeper of the scales. A silver thread that crisscrosses the landscape of scales and connects strangers to one another.

Not even the Keeper of the scales can control the events traveling through the thread. The only thing he can do is try to equalize the balance once it has been thrown off.

From Clarksburg, Alabama (2013) Jennifer Bishop – the wrong place at the wrong time. Two people dead in a chance encounter. What brought her to this circumstance?

Drew Bishop received the call about his wife while traveling. The drugstore, a robbery. Dead. How could someone so alive be gone? A baby girl, Brooke. A daughter to raise. A wife was gone. His job traveling for work, calling on clients, attending conferences. Now his own responsibility. There was no one else. Jennifer’s parent’s lived in California. No one on his side. Brook deserved better. She needed a mother.

Rewind thirty-six years ago in West Virginia. Eddie Coggan. Another story and connection here. How did the person robbing the store happen to be there when Jennifer arrived?

From Drew and Brook, their lives are torn apart between the heartache of the memory and his desire to give Brooke some much-deserved happiness, he tried to remain upbeat – there were reminders. The drugstore was a constant reminder.

Where in God’s name was the fairness? When had he stopped taking care of his family? The what ifs? However, what troubles lay ahead?

The Keeper of the Scales find balance and then without a visible cause sorrow began to outweigh the new stone. The Keeper trying to remove the stone he had placed on the scale. There was nothing he could do to change the course of events.

In the blink of an eye, things change. Lives can be weighted with sadness too heavy to be balanced by even the largest stone. Could destiny be left to fate?

Since the beginning of time, he and he alone has been challenged with the task of keeping each person’s scale in balance. A bit of happiness and then a small stone of sorrow, until the lives he has in his charge are measured evenly.

Flash forward to The Love Potion – The Memory House Inn and catching up with Annie (previous books). A little girl trying to get a potion for her daddy to fall in love and get married, so they could all live together.

Elizabeth is at the Memory House Inn and is in need of healing. Brooke and Elizabeth meet and instantly form a friendship. Will the scales change once again? A story of loss and love. A road to healing.

Fans will enjoy catching up with Annie, Oliver, and Ophelia from previous books, as the stones begin to change. Not one of my favorites in the series. Did not particularly appeal to me or connect with the story. Not as deep or thought-provoking as some of her previous books. ( )
