Well, that was pretty much what I wanted from Indistinguishable From Magic, a book alternating popular-science essays on assorted hypothetical physics and advanced technology forms with short stories involving said physics/technologies, and fortunately enough, that was exactly what it delivered. Recommended for people who either already know the possibilities of the future and have that hobbitesque tendency, or for people who don't and want to trifle with their tolerance for future shock.
