I guess this was a return for the authors; 5 years after their last entry in the series they published two one-shot (as the term seems to be) stories. Both highlighted a period in the lives of previous characters; this is how the whole series works, but the other examples really tell a complete story while this was more of an episode, and thus felt entirely unsatisfying by the end.

The art is gorgeous, as always, and both of these featured pulp comics as parallel narratives, where the main character is reading a comic (a Conan type one, another about a kung fu werewolf), and yeah it's fun to see the homages (beautiful of course) but it felt a bit cheesy HEY THEY ARE READING A COMIC BOOK JUST LIKE YOU.
