ENGLISH REVIEW

A woman is found dead early one morning in March in an apartment in Norrköping. The first one to arrive is ambulance driver Philip Engström. Philip Engström realises when a while later another body is found that he know both victims.

Someone else that is also realising that there is a pattern is prosecutor Jana Berzelius. Both what's the connection with Philip Engström? Jana, together with Inspector Henry Levin and Detective Mia Bolander must find out the truth and stop a killer that seems to be out for revenge.

Prio ett is the third book, but the first book I have read, in the Jana Berzelius series. However, it worked well reading it as a stand-alone. It took some time for me to get into the story and get to know the characters, but after a while, I felt that I started to get the hang of it. I found it interesting to read about a prosecutor in the main role, especially someone as special as Jana Berzelius who once was a child soldier. But, that's in the past and she likes to keep it that way, which is why she has a bit of a problem when an escaped convict blackmailed her to help him because he has documents she has written about her past.

I found the story to be fascinating, despite the fact that it did take me some time to get into it. There came a point when I just got so caught up in the hunt for the murderer that I just couldn't stop reading the book. This is why it only took me a day to read it and that I finished it around midnight. The last part of the book, when the police started to realise the truth is especially thrilling to read. I did have some suspicions concerning the killers identity that turned out to be correct, but I didn't mind that because the book was so well-written and thrilling.

The book is superb and engrossing to read. The main characters have secrets and a dark past that makes me think of Sharon Bolton series about Lacey Flint.

Thanks to Wahlströms och Widstrand förlag for the review copy! ( )

Tartuin tähän, kun teki mieli pitkästä aikaa lukea dekkari. Ruotsalaisista olen yleensä pitänyt, ainakin Åsa Larsson on jäänyt mieleen.

This is the third book in the Jana Berzelius series. She is still haunted by Danilo Pena which is an ongoing thread in the first three books. I would like to put this story line to rest. After three books with it, that's enough.

The main plot consists of someone killing and surgically dismembering bodies. Henrik Levin and his partner Mia Bolander must determine what the connections are and who could possibly be doing this dastardly deed. Of course there are clues but they are leading nowhere.

Slowly We Die nicely blends a police procedural with Jana's hunt to uncover her past and deal with it. Readers need to start at the beginning, though, with Marked for Death and then Marked for Revenge in order to truly appreciate Jana and Danilo.

These books are excellent examples of Scandinavian Noir.

I understand that there are two more books in the series that have not been translated into English. I eagerly await them. ( )

Several people are killed in gruesome murders. All of them are connected through the medical profession, but why are they being killed, and in such horrific ways?
Also, Jana is put in a precarious position when Danilo Pena escapes from custody and forces his way into her apartment, delivering an ultimatum to her. Once again, she is forced to face her checkered past.

Spännande med bra driv. Överdrivet men bra som tidigare böcker i serien. ( )
