Born a slave Clara was separated from her family when they were sold to different owners. She was never able to find out about her sons or husband, but knew one daughter died. She spent the rest of her life looking for her remaining daughter, Eliza Jane, all the while helping to build up the gold region of the Colorado mountains around Denver. This is the kind of young person's book I like. It is well researched and written with a bibliography and an epilogue that explains the information selected for the book. It does not sugar coat the historic trail and uses terms we find objectionable because they were common at the time. Anyone interested in western pioneer history, women's history, or African American history would do well to read this book. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
