I read this one in a day and didn't want to put it down, which is rare, so I really enjoyed it. I liked the pace and the character development which built up the tension nicely. The reader was given enough clues to speculate but not enough for the outcome to be obvious. I liked the psychological evolution of the group dynamics amongst the characters from relatively balanced and harmonious to dysfunctional and dark. It reminded me of Tana French's "The Likeness" in that sense as it tackled similar themes - group dynamics, loyalty, the downward spiral towards the darkness. ( )

This was a solid book. Not what I was expecting and well written. ( )

I enjoyed this, although, I had to suspend believe that Rachel would have been allowed to behave so badly in today’s office environment.
The plot was good, I enjoyed the build up and it had a satisfying end.
It was good to see one of our book club members and friend on here having one of the characters named after her. ( )

The equilibrium between a team of office workers is destroyed when a new boss arrives to drive up performance. The interplay between the different personalities was well observed and will be appreciated by anyone who has experience in working in an office like this. It's a clear and straightforward read. Woven in amongst it is a tale of child abuse way back in time and across the Pond. While the connection with the office storyline isn't clearly stated the reader will infer that one of the office workers *is* one of the children depicted. There is a lot of gender-neutral description and tiptoeing around to keep the field as wide open as possible, but this isn't really one of those stories where you look for the clues although there are plenty of red herrings dangled for the reader to spot. Really you would be best to pick a name at random and see if you're right. ( )

This book kept coming to my attention on different sites and I had to have it (got it on Amazon from UK in about a week). I am so glad I did.
There are two different scenarios, one decades ago with a horrific child abuse case and then present day in an office atmosphere with the boss from h e double hockey stick. And she is nasty; spending most of her time making the workplace extremely toxic. The reader waits patiently for the connection as we get deeper and deeper and are hooked in. In my case, it wasn't very patiently; books of this type I have to devour, I am not good at waiting.
This is a great thriller, a bit heart wrenching, with some big twists and surprises. Part way in, I went back on Amazon and ordered a bunch more of hers. While she isn't well known yet over on this side of the pond, I think she will be and her books are super easy to get at a good price. ( )
