Anthony Bridgerton hasn't just decided to marry--he's even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended's older sister, Kate Sheffield--the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate's the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams. Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands--and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate's determined to protect her sister--but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony's lips touch hers, she's suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself.… (mais)

This is the kind of book most of my fellow males will avoid like the plague. All the more so if they ever - by accident, of course! - happen to come across the “Author’s Note” in this book which explicitly states “Since my readers are almost exclusively women”...

Well, here I am, and I profess: I greatly enjoyed this book despite knowing that it most certainly is (mostly) literary fast food - good to sate ones primal desires but not really nourishing.

And I couldn’t care less.

I really enjoyed the lovely family dynamics between the Bridgertons and I loved the witty bantering between Anthony and Kate. I just can’t help but root for such wonderful characters and their relationships, their eccentricities and how they overcome them.

Is it realistic? Not at all. Historically accurate? Very unlikely. Romantic, cute and thoroughly enjoyable? To me at least, absolutely.

You’ll have to be able to generously ignore macho “gems” like this one...

»It was as if a certain side of her were visible only to him. He loved that her charms were hidden to the rest of the world. It made her seem more his.«

… which this book features in numbers. The men are “real men” (and hardly stop short at clubbing their female prey and dragging them to their cave), the women are kind and gentle and it doesn’t take much to dishonour a lady for life…

If you can stomach that, you might find yourself actually enjoying it. Four out of five stars for this guilty pleasure.

'The Viscount Who Loved Me' is the love story of Kate & Anthony. Two people that the family relationships are the most important thing. This book reminded me how much first impressions are, and things we hear or assume about someone can bust like a balloon in your face. That is what happened between Kathy & Anthony. In my opinion, their relationship isn't enemies to lovers. I would say each one of our main characters has its own prejudice for the other one. Kate & Anthony manage to suppress their prejudice, build a family by being friends and understanding each other fears, and manage to concord them.
I am taking part in the 'Meet & Greet Challange,' one of my group participants suggested that I should continue with the 'Bridgertons' series. The other reason I picked up 'The Viscount Who Loved Me' is that the second season of the series is going to air on Netflix. (I am certain I will rewatch the first season before the second season will air.)
Well, the truth is even though I liked the book very much, I missed the Brodgerton family members. You have a glimpse of Daphne, Collin, Violet, and Eloise, as well as Simon & Penelope. For me, the feeling isn't the same as it was with the ambiance of 'The Duke & I.' Maybe because different when Anthony gets married. He lives in a different house, even though he is the Viscount and the patriarch of the Bridgerton family.
The author's note is important, interesting, and informative because you learn a lot about Anthony's and the behavior of a lot male population in the Regency era.
Looking forward to continuing with the series and reading the third installment of the Bridgerton series and the love story between Sophie & Benedict. ( )

I liked this even better than the first one! I'm a sucker for quick wit and charm and the characters in The Viscount Who Loved Me have those in spades. Now that Daphne Bridgerton is off and married (to a Duke no less) Anthony Bridgerton has decided that as man of the house it is up to him to get married and produce an heir. He is convinced that he will not live longer than his beloved father (who died young at the age of 38) so he wants to find a nice wife to bed and be friends with but not to love. When the Sheffield sisters come to London for the season, Anthony is assured that the younger sister, Edwina, is the belle of the season so he decides to wed her. The only trouble is he has to deal with her bull-headed older sister before he can woo Edwina. Thoroughly enjoyable. I can't wait to read the next one! ( )

A little too Elizabeth-and-Darcy for my taste, and also a little too single-minded...every single chapter was just about Anthony and Kate. Where were all of the supporting characters we know and love? Still, a fun enough diversion. ( )

Anthony and Kate's story is a hate to love historical romance. I have to say in reading this second book in the series that at times it doesn't feel like I'm reading a book set back in the early 1800s. I rather liked Kate's character and was rooting for her throughout the book. Another easy read. ( )
