Embark on an exciting, adventurous, and dangerous journey through the galaxy with the motley crew of the spaceship Wayfarer in this fun and heart-warming space opera??the sequel to the acclaimed The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet.

Lovelace was once merely a ship's artificial intelligence. When she wakes up in a new body, following a total system shut-down and reboot, she has no memory of what came before. As Lovelace learns to negotiate the universe and discover who she is, she makes friends with Pepper, an excitable engineer, who's determined to help her learn and grow.

Together, Pepper and Lovey will discover that no matter how vast space is, two people can fill it together.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet introduced readers to the incredible world of Rosemary Harper, a young woman with a restless soul and secrets to keep. When she joined the crew of the Wayfarer, an intergalactic ship, she got more than she bargained for??and learned to live with, and love, her rag-tag collection of crewmates.

A Closed and Common Orbit is the stand-alone sequel to that beloved debut novel, and is perfect for fans of Firefly, Joss Whedon, Mass Effect, and Star Wars… (mais)

It's official, Becky Chambers is now on my auto buy list. Like A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet this book is all about the characters. It involves questions about freedom and personal autonomy among other issues and the dual story lines are gripping. Loved it. ( )

Even better than [book:The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet|22733729]! (Honestly, although I greatly enjoyed it, I found the characters in Angry Planet a little derivative from TV sci-fi shows. It was like a game: Character A matches with Character B from TV show C.) But Common Orbit stands on its own, both narratively and creatively. Dealing as it does with artificial intelligence, the novel raises some interesting philosophical issues. But Chambers never beats us over the head with them. They're just left there for you to ponder at your leisure, if you so choose. The characters are engaging and well-drawn. The plot is good, and the storytelling is well handled. I look forward to Chambers' next novel. ( )

Love, love, love! Very nicely done, I love how Becky Chambers keeps her story telling small, focusing on personal details, even when she is talking about big issues (what makes us human?). Her books are the most cosy SF books I've come across, with wonderful characters, and lovely world building. ( )

This was an absolutely beautiful book. While in some ways it felt less cozy than the first book, I don't think it really was; I think that's my reaction to how important the plot of this book was. It's definitely still a cozy—the consequences if the plot goes wrong are very limited in scope. No one will really be impacted except our main characters. But for them, there is so much importance in everything going right that it feels like a much bigger deal. I really enjoyed this one. ( )

This is a side story about Blue and Pepper. It's written much like the first and has a lot of back story about how these two characters (mostly Pepper) developed into the characters they are. There's also quite a bit more detail into the various species we have already met in the previous book. I struggle with calling it a series, because a series denotes a continuation of a story, where this is more backstory and a side story. It's still worth the read if you enjoyed the universe in which the previous book was set. ( )

Jane let out a sob she hadn't known was there. Oouoh sat up with a start. 'Oh - oh, what the fuck, he said. 'Shit, let's get you to the med ward, come on -'
Jane stared at him, 'What? Why? I'm fine.'
'Uh, no, you're ...your eyes are leaking.'
Jane laughed, which was heard to do while crying. 'No, no, this' she sniffed hard - 'it's just tears. It's okay.'
Oouoh was distraught. 'What about this is okay?'
'We do this. Humans do this when - when we're feeling a lot of things.'
'You leak?'
