Prompted to check it out after reading an article about Buster Keaton & an interesting comment was made baout how Lloyd was most like all of us whereas Chaplin & Keaton were idealized versions of ourselves. After watching it I think it rings true. In a film of kinetic energy, Lloyd presents us with countless scenes of awkward situations & embarrassment. I loved this movie. One of my favorites so far this year. A man goes to Coney Island, drives a taxi, and races a horse-drawn trolley. It's nice, after seeing so many silent comedies set in Los Angeles, to have one shot in New York. It's novel, it's much more photogenic, and they take good advantage of it. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard and unremarkable Harold Lloyd movie. There are two unrelated stories forced together for no apparent reason, one of which has no resolution. It was the last silent feature to star Harold Lloyd, and one of his very best. The slapstick legend reprises his "Glasses Character" this time as a good-natured but scatterbrained New Yorker who can't keep a job. He finally finds his true calling when he becomes determined to help save the city's last horse-drawn trolley, which is operated by his sweetheart's crusty grandfather.
