This book is beautiful in the fact that it shows WHEREVER you are, being a kid is constant. No matter what the culture or the language, the climate or the customs, kids will be kids and think like kids. Being a kid means goofing off, taking care of animals, and making friends! The photographs capture the kids being kids so well!

This book is full of beautiful pictures of children all around the world. It shows them doing everyday activities, like having a snack, or playing ball. It promotes the importance of family, the arts, friends, and school. It shows that although we may look and dress different, or live far apart, we are all essentially the same. This is a great book for teaching kids that lesson. All the photographs are heartfelt, and are joy to view. ( )

This book is absolutely beautiful. It explains what it means to be a kids, but with a twist. There are pictures from many different countries showing that kids from all over the world do the same thing. Essentially, it's saying that everyone is a kid at some point no matter where they live or where they come from. It shows equality across all nationalities, races, and cultures. This book would be great to introduce to kids that don't see a lot of diversity, like a private or parochial schools that are majority white students. Seeing that there is smooch diversity in the world but we are really all the same is refreshing. ( )

The book "To Be a Kid" by Maya Ajmera is a Kindergarten/ First grade level book that highlights the similarities between all children across the globe. This book highlights the activities that most children enjoy while providing pictures of children from across the globe engaging in these highlighted activities. For example page five states "To be a kid means going to school and learning new things" then provides a picture of children from the Philippines in a classroom and children form the Marshall Islands graduating pre-school. I think this is a wonderful book about acceptance and differences and equality. It showcases to children that although people way look different, or do things a bit differently, we are all the same. I believe that the big idea in this book is just that, that everyone is the same on the inside. I would recommend this book to any classroom teacher because of how culturally inclusive and thought out his book is.
