Since the moment we first entered Downton Abbey in 1912, we have been swept away by its evocative world of romance, intrigue, drama, and tradition. Now, in 1925, as Downton Abbey prepares to close its doors for the final time, Jessica Fellowes leads us through the house and estate, reliving the iconic moments of the wonderfully aristocratic Crawley family and their servants as they navigate the emerging modern age. I love Downton Abbey and I really enjoyed this book.
It's definitely worth having as a keepsake. It's filled with beautiful pictures, interesting facts and also a nice run through of the show. It breaks down the significance of locations in the house, characters' storylines throughout the course of the show and even has an episode guide at the back.

I think this book does a good job of representing the years passed on the show.

If you enjoy the show, you'll enjoy the book. ( )

I enjoyed this book so much, but then I enjoyed the series as well. The best part about the book is the photography. The actors and characters come alive in the photographs. ( )

Cash grab or good overview? Probably depends on the reader. This heavy, gorgeous book is the "official companion" to the entire series (and includes spoilers for the final season, ah!). This was my first book read after finishing the TV show and wanting more information, answers, etc.

Some people have said the writing isn't that great and I can see that. It looks at the Abbey itself: upstairs, downstairs, the surrounding village, the hospital, the train station, etc. I'm not sure if the other books do the same but I appreciated the grand overview. Having watched all the episodes (except one) recently helped a lot.

There isn't much more to say. If you're familiar with the show then you'll recognize all the names, places, probably the actors (if not by their names then by their characters), etc. Some get more info than others: not all of the characters made it all the way through as most viewers probably know. Some of the "minor" characters also get profiles even if they were only more relevant in the later seasons. So your mileage on this may vary.

Overall I really liked it. The writing could have been better but this felt like (to me) a more complete companion book to read than some of the other books that were published during the show's original run. I couldn't say how this holds up if you've read the other books published about 'Downton' but based on reviews and other information I wouldn't be surprised if some people are/were disappointed and felt this was more about making money for Christmas (book was released in November of 2015) than anything else.

Glad my library had a copy. Would make a good gift though. ( )

I know I said that I absolutely did not want to read this, but my friend brought it home for me.

All I can say is it was a 100% improvement: It dealt with all the major characters, their rooms, the town, the living & gathering areas...

I would have liked to have seen much more of the costumes, but this was a lovely book. ( )
