I was really disappointed in this book. I thought something by a "two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize" would have more depth and breadth to it. Mr. Gaul appears to have done little, if any, research into the facts & history of sports in education, and chose to write a book based upon people he visited and talked to. Even those visits/talks are limited, at least 90% are the sports-oriented people. The conversation is limited to football, and is basically a list of some of the better-known colleges, along with what they spend on football.
I would have liked to see conversations with chancellors, with donors, with non-sports-edified students, some historical research, and a much more rounded academic discussion. ( )
