See the world of Fifty Shades of Grey anew through the eyes of Christian Grey. In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world. Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty--until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him--past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian's cold, wounded heart. Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?… (mais)

Christian Grey is a sociopath and a stalker. You will never be able to convince me otherwise. It has nothing to do with the fact that his is into BDSM, and everything to do with the fact that he is a bad dom with only a limited respect for limits and boundaries. He is a bad man and James is a shameful author for making him seem like a hero ( )

I'm definitely not in the camp that sees the Twilight/50 Shades phenomenon as a symptom of the decline of Western Civilization, but, having read the 50 Shades trilogy a few years back, I didn't find Grey a particularly great addition to the series. Free as it is of Ana's frequent exclamations of "Oh my!" and talk of her Inner Goddess, Grey's perspective from inside Christian's head sometimes seems preferable to that of the earlier books, but there's not much new here. E.L. James is ballsy and funny from what I know of her, though, and for all of her writing's legitimate flaws, that comes through in Grey, especially in the e-mail banter between Christian and Ana. Christian's flashbacks to his terrible early childhood are also sad and affecting. I'm kind of over the novelty of reading explicit descriptions of kinky sex, so seeing those scenes from Christian's perspective wasn't especially titillating, but Grey is a fine diversion if your brain is feeling too taxed to take on something more challenging, as mine has felt lately. Whether you throw in vampires or floggers, the story of the sweet, bookish good girl who rescues the tortured bad boy from his demons and discovers some important things about herself along the way, is a well-worn, classic, and appealing one to many, including me. Why am I still reading this series? Unknown, yet I persist. ( )

I waited so long to read this book and it didn't disappoint. It was very eye-opening and refreshing to read Christian's point of view of what happened and how heel feels towards Ana. Although, I enjoy Ana's POV more, this book was very enjoyable to read and I hope I get to read the rest of the story in Christian's perspective as well. ( )

There is no earthly reason for me to read this, other than to get more of what's promised in this pretty awesome review.

***

Not much to add to this review above, but ELJ has used up her lifetime quota of the following words:
-sated
-beguiled/bewitched
-delectable
-envisaged
-replete

And finally, Christian Grey is one of the least self-aware characters I've ever read, particularly considering the lifetime of therapy he's allegedly gone through. If I start going down the rabbit hole of this book's shortcomings, though, this review will never be over! ( )
