Felix Castor has reluctantly returned to exorcism after the case of the Bonnington Archive ghost convinced him that he really can do some good with his abilities ("good," of course, being a relative term when dealing with the undead). But his friend, Rafi, is still possessed; the succubus Ajulutsikael (Juliet to her friends) still technically has a contract on him; and he's still dirt poor. Doing some consulting for the local constabulary helps pay the bills, but Castor needs a big, private job to really fill the hole in his overdraft. That's what he needs. What he gets--good fortune and Castor not being on speaking terms--is a seemingly insignificant "missing ghost" case that inexorably drags him and his loved ones into the middle of a horrific plot to raise one of Hell's fiercest demons. When Satanists, sacrifice farms, stolen spirits, and possessed churches all appear on the same police report, the name of Felix Castor can't be too far behind.… (mais)

A ghostly whodunit turned into a "Hey, didn't you do it?"

Some of the storylines were slightly meandering until we got into the meat, but they served to remind us and explore a bit of what makes Fix a tortured soul.

Of course, this is pretty standard fare when it comes to the Noir genre, and it hardly makes a difference whether the main character wields a gun and a whistle to work his magic, (both figuratively and literally.)

While it doesn't really stand out too far ahead in the UF field, it is an entertaining read. Having a Succubus on the team certainly helps, and diving into the nitty gritty of hell and plucky satanists while working with and running from the cops does seem to maintain a certain nice tension level.

Some of the text is a bit clunky, but overall, I enjoyed it very much.

I'm so glad this series was referred to me. The first book was excellent, and this follow up doesn't disappoint. In this novel, Felix is hired by a mourning couple who are looking for their daughter's ghost who was stolen from them by an exorcist. Of course, just like The Devil You Know, things are definitely not what they seem.

I would highly recommend this series to anyone who is into urban fantasy. ( )

Felix Castor is hired by a pair of grieving parents to find the ghost of their daughter, somehow stolen by the mother's ex-lover, but things turn out to be much more perilous than expected when both the Catholic Church and their adversaries turn up to stake a claim. Another good installment in an exciting series. Again, the Constantine similarities are there, but Castor is much more a working-man's exorcist rather than a cynical occultist, so the story hits very different notes than Constantine. Granted, he also isn't as funny as Constantine, but he's a solid character nevertheless. The mystery in this installment gets turned on its head more than once during the story and there are a couple of reveals that were frankly a little stunning. Great read! ( )

Poor Felix, everything always happens to him, and he has to make no win decisions. :( Really enjoy the writing style and the narrator on this one! ( )

It was o.k. I laughed a couple of times and I mostly wasn't bored. I'll read another. ( )
