From the beloved author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven comes his most critically acclaimed novel yetâ??a stunningly original tale of love: love between a man and a woman, between an artist and his mentor, and between a musician and his God-given talent.

Narrated by the voice of Music itself, the story follows Frankie Presto, a war orphan born in a burning church, through his extraordinary journey around the world. Raised by a blind guitar teacher in Spain and gifted with a talent to change people's livesâ??using six mysterious blue stringsâ??Frankie navigates the musical landscape of the twentieth century, from the 1950s jazz scene to the Grand Ole Opry to Elvis mania and Woodstock, all the while searching for his childhood love.

As he becomes a famous star, he loses his way, until tragedy steals his ability to play the guitar that had so defined him. Overwhelmed by his loss, Frankie disappears for decades, reemerging late in life for one spectacular yet mystifying farewell.

Part love story, part magical mystery, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto is Mitch Albom at his finest, a Forrest Gump-like epic about one man's journey to discover what truly matters and the power of talent to change our li… (mais)

It took a while to get into the book, even though the narrator does a good job and there are enough guest voices at the beginning to keep me curious. it may have just been my mood. However, I still enjoyed Frankie's saga, and I was happy to follow him around the world, be frustrated with him and Aurora, cheer for him, cry with him, etc. The story is well crafted and told in the voice of Music. It is worth sticking with. Especially if you enjoyed Five People You Meet in Heaven, because I think this book shares a few themes with that book.

This book is the life story of a fictional character, Frankie Presto, as told by the Spirit of Music. Frankie is a talented musician who interacts with many of the notable names in music. As the title suggests, contains elements of magic. I found the story very creative. It depicts the power of music to influence our lives. Recommended to readers who enjoy music or music history. ( )

This is my first time to read a book with an unconventional narrator. It quite amazed me, seeing things on a unique point of view. The story itself is superb. At first, I was really interested, then at some point, I became bored that I searched the plot (typical me). I think the story was not neatly wrapped like I have tons of questions by the way of how things happened. The number one mystery to me is the nun, Josefa. I think everything is still clouded in mist to me that I can’t quite understand how she was there all long. Sure, some of her stories did make sense, but some are very vague for me (I might need an additional readings for that). But generally, on an average, I can say that this is one of the stories that blew me away. I would have never guessed the plot twists. There were so many mysteries written, so many characters who were interloped with one another, and so many beautiful lessons. ( )

I didn't much like the last Mitch Albom book I read. I wouldn't have read The Magic Strings if it hadn't been selection for our monthly book discussion group. It seemed weird at first but after a few chapters I began to like it. This book requires some suspension of disbelief. Told by a narrator who is supposed to be the giver of musical talent, sort of a muse. The story follows the improbable life of a great musician. Other famous musicians are encountered along the way. Starts in Spain during the Spanish Civil War and continues to the US up to and beyond Woodstock. ( )

Uniquely written with the narration by "Music" this is a sweet book of a talented guitarist life. The ups and downs, the love and tragedy, it was really enjoyable. I loved the descriptions told from a musical background and the weaving of real life artists into the story. A great read. ( )
