Throughout the book there is more confidence and an optimistic outlook about king all to perform ballet. I would recommend this book because it has a theme of not being discouraged and that one can accomplish something they pursue. The book also has beautiful and bright images. This is a great book for 2nd graders and below to read. I think this book would be great for primary level students. It has gorgeous art and minimal text. We see this book to be about a young girl who wants to be a ballerina. This book highlights an African American centered role, and how she pushes hard to make her dreams come true. She eventually becomes a professional ballet dancer. I think this would be a good book to have on the shelf to have more diversity and inclusivity, as well as beautiful art and encourage dancing/following your dreams. This book is suitable for primary and intermediate students. It is about a young dancer who lacks confidence in herself and her abilities as a dancer. In the book, she is being encouraged by an American Ballet Theatre soloist that she is exactly where she was when she first started. This book is beautiful–the illustrations create such a powerful and empowering read. The overall message conveyed is that through hard work and time, you can make something really beautiful out of yourself. I would definitely use this book in my classroom library to empower my students. I think it would also be really exciting for students to read who are just starting out with something like dance, a sport, etc. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

American Ballet Theater soloist Misty Copeland encourages a young ballet student, with brown skin like her own, by telling her that she, too, had to learn basic steps and how to be graceful when she was starting out, and that some day, with practice and dedication, the little girl will become a firebird, too. Includes author's note about dancers who led her to find her voice. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

In her debut picture book, Misty Copeland tells the story of a young girl--an every girl--whose confidence is fragile and who is questioning her own ability to reach the heights that Misty has reached. Misty encourages this young girl's faith in herself and shows her exactly how, through hard work and dedication, she too can become Firebird.
Lyrical and affecting text paired with bold, striking illustrations that are some of Caldecott Honoree Christopher Myers's best work, makes Firebird perfect for aspiring ballerinas everywhere. (less)
