On the first page of the book, there is a little girl outside reading book. On the next page, she is packing in preparation for her trip to Kansas Flint Hills. The book then gives a description of the prairie and the animals that live there. Lastly, the book explains the climate of this area.

I like the fact that the book has a map of prairies of the world. The book is a good book to introduce prairies to small children. The book needs more detailed information for me to consider this for older children. The book can also be used to teach other resource skills such as using a map key and glossary. The is also a short list of more books to read on the subject and websites to visit. After reading this book with children I would look at pictures of Kansas Flint Hills and other prairies with them. The book is part of a series about different ecosystems. ( )
