Good art, and a good representation of both the alienation of people of Japanese descent and their internment in American camps. Not super graphic, but deals well with anger, being true to oneself, and the fury at wrongful treatment. ( ) Based on the experiences of the author’s great aunt during the Japanese Internment in 1941, this graphic novel is told through the voice of a 13-year-old California boy. His mother is white and his father is Japanese, and he struggles with his own cultural identity. Graphic Novel, Author’s Note, Resource list. Koji is 13 and living in San Francisco in 1941 when Japanese Americans were put in internment camp. His father returned to Japan some time before Pearl Harbor, and his mother is white. He faces discrimination in town, and then also when he enters the internment camp for being mixed race. Some bad language a la 1940s (he calls his mom a 'floozy' and there are a few racist terms used). Written and illustrated by Matt Faulkner. Illustrations are full and busy. Colors at the camp are drab, while Koji's dreams/nightmares of his father are in bright reds. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
