Someone is hunting shadow demons. A magical amulet is trying to control Val. A sexy cowboy vamp is tired of waiting. When unknown demon hunters from a dark religious sect focus on killing Shade, Val's ex-boyfriend and shadow demon, she has to bury her feelings of rejection and do her job as Paladin for the Demon Underground. But protecting Shade is more difficult than she ever imagined. Shade is fighting his own internal demons as long-suppressed memories begin to surface. Lola, Val's inner succubus, can barely suck, which leaves Val dangerously weak. Austin, Lola's vamp of choice over Val's objections insists his job is to protect the Paladin regardless of Val's opinion on the matter. Fang is distracted by the impending birth of his pups. Val is distracted by Austin and the tangle of feelings she has for two gorgeously irritating guys who couldn't be more different. When she learns the demon hunters' shocking identities, Val will need all her allies ready, willing and able to help her fight. Even with luck, the cost of saving the world may be more than Val can bear to pay… (mais)

Before I go any further with this.... if you haven't read the short story Forget Me. STOP READING THIS NOW, AND GO READ IT. It's very imparitive that you read it before moving on with the series.

Ok now that, that's done let's move on....

Ok in a previous review I had mentioned that Val has gotten very whiny and annoying over Shade. Well in this book it really takes it toll. There was even one point in the book, actually the few that I wish I could've reached into the book and smacked her upside the head a few times, seriously.

But there is still hope for Val yet. Austin the charming arrogant vampire, had basically made his intentions known to Val, though she kept refusing and denying him throughout the book. But there is hope for the next book for Val and her love life, because her and Shade, though I love Shade that's a mad house right there.

As usual though the book, sucked me right in, and OH MY GOODNESS! I'm dying for the next book already. ( )

I really like this series, but this book didn't work for me.

Here's the good. Still liking Val. I felt she didn't have as much to do in this book as she usually does, which is weird because these are her books. I felt as if she spent too much time on manufactured drama when she could have been doing what she does best and kicking ass.

Also still loving Fang. Loving to death that Fang and Princess had puppies. Loving all things hellhound, mostly because they're the only ones who are honest about their emotions.

Here's the bad. I am so over love triangles. Also, men treating women like a prize to be won instead of a thinking human being really turns me off. Now I'm "Team Val Tells Shade & Austin to Go Screw Themselves While She Takes Some Me-Time." We've got a lengthy team name but our parties are great.

I felt as if three-quarters of the emotional drama in this book could have been solved with one clear and honest conversation between all the players. Also the emotional drama took up so much time that the entire main plot of the evil demon seemed rushed and the demon's defeat seemed anti-climactic.

I also wish everyone would get over the succubus thing. She's a succubus, she needs to feed, she can do that without cheating, loving, or any other nonsense people in this book come up with. It's bad enough Val has issues with her nature, but that's her journey and hers to work out, but it's terrible when other people try to tell her how she feels and what to do.

Needed more Gwen.

This series s what I like to call a diamond in a rough. Precious and not very well known, I have fallen in LOVE with this series. For fans of Vampire Academy and Mythos Academy, you will enjoy this book.

Plot: So, this is a series and this is the 5th book i the series. I have been following it since the first time I discovered it and look forward to every book released since. So, with that said the plot once again moves in so may dramatic ways. Val is fighting for life and is once again, fighting for the guy she loves. I like that the plot is never boring but always entertaining. Either by sarcastic comments or cray dog conversations, I totally enjoyed being immersed is this book.

Love: What is it with Val finding a bunch of jerks? I want Val to find someone worthy of her cause to be honest those guys that she sees are soooo not good enough. Val doesn’t think highly of herself. She…well Val is Val. She need someone strong and capable like her. Like the sexy cowboy who keeps coming in her life. (wink, wink)

Ending: I think the ending is very good and can carry on to another book. Which I’m totally excited about. I’m hoping that Val can find some peace and LOVE that is stable and not from her dog Fang. Fang, I love that dog. He is so funny and keeps Val in check.

If you haven’t check out this series you should! It’s very good with lots of great action and characters. This is a great addition to the series and I can not wait to see what happens next. Dare Me is awesome! ( )
