Ten Creeks Run follows the life of pioneer families of the Murrumbidgee region of NSW in the late 1880's and follows on 30 years after "Up the Country" with the next generation of Mazere, Healy & Stanton families.
Initially I was confused with meeting all these people and was not sure who was related to who ( a bit like those letters from your grandmother about uncle jack's wife's first cousin who married the guy who use to run the bakers shop) and was preparing to rate the book 3/5.
The story is primarily about the ordinaryness of pioneer life, the struggles to survive with little money and a harsh environment and the heartbreak and happiness of the young people seeking a future partner from within the limited pool on offer. As I got to know these people better my attention was given to the richness of the writing and the wonderful descriptions of the pioneers and of the bush. By the end of the book - 4/5 - no worries!
