Ignited by Kaylea Cross – In this gripping military romance a woman whose father was killed in Pakistan for his beliefs decides she wants to go back and finish his job of opening a school for Pakistan girls. This puts her in just as much danger as her father was as the Taliban doesn’t want women educated and taking jobs they think only men should have. Hunter Phillips is asked to form a team and accompany her as her security detail. Hunter is reluctant at first due to a previous mission gone badly and he thinks the daughter is insane for wanting to do this so close after her father’s death and with all the unrest that is still going on, Pakistan is not a place for a woman to make a stand. These two butt heads at first but soon the bullets are flying and bombs going off and then things ignite sexually between Hunter and Khalia. As with military books that deal with Taliban regions it always sickens me to see the violence that is an everyday occurrence over there and how women are treated and having a opinion and speaking out about it can cost you your head. I give the writers of military romances their credit for all the research they do and for showing the atrocities to us readers even though it is a work of fiction.

Deathscape by Dana Marton – Very good suspense book with a touch of paranormal and a dash of romance. Detective Jack Sullivan has been looking for a serial killer for years since he killed his sister. The killer has now set him up when he thinks Jack getting to close and captures him. Three days later Ashley Price, who is an artist who is struggling with depression over something tragic that happened which resulted in her father keeping her daughter, has a horrible vision that she paints as she's having it. When the vision has passed and she looks at what she painted she realizes its on her property and its a man that has been buried alive. She rushes to the location and manages to dig him up and he's still alive. That man was Jack. From here Jack believes that Ashley has to be working with the killer, especially when he finds other paintings she has done, all of murdered victims. Almost 90% of this book is the mystery on figuring out who the killer is. The author does a great job of making you really have think on who it could be. Ashley and Jack's romance was slow to come but she was so emotionally unstable from her previous trauma even though she was working hard to overcome it so she could get her daughter back and Jack was just one tracked mind on getting the killer at the expenses of everything.

Legal Ease by Lori Ryan – This was a cute contemporary that had plenty of humor, a sweet romance and some suspense. Jack Sutton run’s a multimillion dollar corporation with his two best friends. With both of his parents dead he wants to make sure the company his father started from nothing continues to flourish as a ode to their memory as they are both dead now. But he has hit two snags. One his mother’s will state’s he must be married by his 35th birthday and two his Aunt is doing everything in her power to get him ousted as the CEO. As he isn’t even steadily dating anyone he doesn’t know how he is going to get out of the clause. Jack’s secretary overhears his dilemma and tells her best friend Kelly Bradley who sees it as an opportunity to help both her and Jack at the same time. She’s been accepted to Yale but cannot afford the tuition. So with no warning to Jack she marching in his office during a meeting with his aunt and announces herself as his fiancé. After agreeing to Kelly’s terms and having Kelly agree to his she moves in with him and the two of them find themselves falling in love. What they don’t realize is Kelly has come under the radar of some bad men involved in human trafficking who kidnap her. This was a sweet read for most of the book that then turned into a rescue mission but that made these two realize what they both had come to mean to each other.

The Killing Game by Toni Anderson Realistic scene descriptions, endangered species, and plenty of spies made this a sure fire hit in my reading collection. The book mainly takes place in a long mountain range that stretches between central Afghanistan and northern Pakistan where wildlife biologist Axelle Dehn had previously tagged the snow leopards there with a GPS tracking system. When 2 of the tracking systems go offline she rushes to the Hindu Kush in fear that poachers have started killing them for their fur. What Axelle didn’t know was she’d basically landed herself in the middle of a hunt for the one of the most sought after Russian terrorists. The Special Air Service is a regiment of the British Army and Ty Dempsey and his counter–terrorism team are there to bring back the terrorist suspecting of hiding in the mountains dead or alive. What starts out as Axelle trying to save her snow leopards and Ty trying to catch a terrorist turns into a harrowing fight for survival and so many twist and turns in the world of spies and espionage. The author doesn’t just leave character backgrounds to our imagination. We go back in time to find out what made the two main characters, the terrorist and double agents who they are today that all wraps up to a shocking conclusion.

See Me in Your Dreams by Patricia Rosemoor What made this one stand out to me was the heroine was from Ireland and grew up in a traditional old fashioned Irish family. After her grandmother’s death, who had left her a note about her legacy, she starts getting visions from a young girl who’s run away from home and seems to be in trouble. She takes a trip to America to try to mend relationships between her Father, Aunt and Uncle who were born triplets but had a falling out many years ago. While she is in Chicago she sees a broadcast about the missing girl and realizes it’s the one she had been having dreams about. She tracks down the father, Tyler Leighton, and then these two people from two different worlds start to bond as they try to find the girl and end up unraveling quite the tangled web of characters who are involved.

Christmas Captive by Rebecca York Hannah Andrews is a nurse with psychic abilities to connect to people. Frank Decorah was hired by Jordan Campbell’s grandmother to look into the suspicious accident that put him in a coma. Frank asks Hannah to go undercover as one of his nurses at his estate to try and find out what happened to him. This story reminded me a bit of the game Clue. Where Hannah had to move from person to person and then room to room, when she was linked to Jordan, to try and figure out who done it. There is quite the sexy scene between Hannah and Jordon in the dream world, I really liked the chemistry between these two. This was a cleverly done who done it with a dab of paranormal.

Fallen SEAL Legacy by Sharon Hamilton Navy SEAL Calvin “Coop” Cooper, lives a carefree life. Choosing to live in a motor home his seal buddies have nicknamed the “babemobile” for obvious reasons. He’s perfectly content living his life that way until he is sent home to Nebraska after his whole family is wiped out in a tornado. His CO doesn’t think he’s dealing his grief properly so he orders him to meet the family of a Seal that was killed in ’83. The brother is a prominent San Diego psychiatrist. Libby Brownlee was attending college when one of her professors sexually assaults her. When the college doesn’t do more than slap him on the hand she decides to take time off and go home. Turns out she is the niece of the man Coop has come to learn about. These two don’t hit it off at first. Their way of dealing with grief is putting up walls and being defensive. They finally realize they are attracted to each other but at the same time she comes under the radar of a killer. Coop and his Team have to figure out who took her in time to save her.

Secret Guardian by Jill Sanders I love these fast paced action packed books. Action starts out in Brazil and over a two month period things are blown up with harrowing treks through the jungle and dodging bullets. Ann is a journalist in Brazil on assignment. She has a new camera guy and thinks he’s nothing but an arrogant ladies man and she can’t wait to get him fired when they get back to the states. But she needs him for one last interview that she is hoping gets her a Pulitzer. The source claims he can expose how the government is tangled up in the drug business. Little does Ann know but it was a setup and soon her whole team is dead and her camera man isn’t a camera man after all. Ethan was hired by her father to keep her safe while she was in Rio. When a bomb goes off in their hotel Ethan has no choice but to finally admit who he is and go on the run with Ann through the jungle to keep her safe and one step ahead of the bad guys. As these two are running for their lives they give into their smoldering attraction for one another. There were many facets to this story. Ethan has a previous history with Ann’s family and he also runs his own security firm that he uses many of his old special forces buddies to help on ops. Then there is the mystery of who wants to make sure that Ann’s senator father doesn’t pass a bill and are trying to kidnap Ann to make sure he backs off. These are my favorite type of stories and the author does a fabulous job of entertaining you from the start.

Three Days in Seattle Debra Burroughs – The title of this books describes what takes place. Kate is called at her home in LA and informed her sister is missing in Seattle. She gets on the first plane out to Seattle but never quite makes it to Seattle due to diversions and ends up in Boise where she meets a man on his way home to Seattle. Once she finally makes it Seattle for the next 3 days Kate trys to figure out what happened to her sister while staying at her apartment with her roommate Suki who called Kate to report the sister missing but not the police. In between filing a missing person report she also goes on a date with the man she met at the airport. There was little suspense as it was pretty obvious as to what had happened to Kate’s sister and who’d done it. If you like your romances on the sweet side and a light mystery you should like this story.

Catching the Bad Guy by Marie Astor –This is a 3 book series about the adventures of Janet Maple and Dennis Walker who are white collar crime investigators. Their latest case involves insider trading. There are plenty of other things going on – a new boss that happens to be Janet’s ex who is a sleezoid, and Janet and Dennis fighting there attraction and leery about taking their work partnership and friendship to a whole new level. This was a fun and entertaining read. ( )
