Their love is destined to shatter the boundaries of time... Archaeology grad student Alexandra Larson's world is turned upside down when her mother shares her deepest, darkest secret-that she doesn't know the true identity of Lex's father. The revelation sparks a change within Lex, and her dreams become far too real. She sees things she shouldn't be able to see...knows things she couldn't possibly know. Terrifying things. Deadly things. To distract her from the surreal changes taking over her life, Lex leaps at the chance to join an Egyptian excavation run by Oxford's enigmatic Professor Marcus Bahur. But the distraction might be more than she bargained for. While deciphering the secrets of a mysterious stone tablet, Lex falls headlong into a prophecy created by a dying god over four millennia ago. She must rely on her frightening new psychic powers to dig up the truth. And it doesn't take long for her visions to convince her that both Professor Bahur and his excavation are much more than they seem... The past clashes with the present in this paranormal saga of ancient prophecies and warring gods. If you like Egyptian mythology, steamy romance, time-bending mysteries, and complex characters, then you'll love this sprawling time travel adventure.… (mais)

Stupid characters are stupid for plot convenience.
Nothing in this book works without incredible stupidity by supposedly genius and centuries old characters. ( )

Archaeology grad student Alexandra Larson has just experienced her first notable success--a paper published in a peer-reviewed journal.

She's also starting to experience more disturbing events, in which she has dreams that recall forgotten memories just when she needs them, or, more disturbingly, things that haven't happened yet, but which are all too real. Or things which have happened, but aren't her experiences. They're the experiences of other members of her family.

Then her mother reveals a startling and disturbing fact: her father isn't her biological father. She's the product of artificial insemination, with sperm from a sperm bank donor who remained anonymous. Her world has come completely unhinged.

Meanwhile, her academic career doesn't take a break for her emotional upheaval. An Oxford professor, Marcus Bahur, is currently a visiting professor at Washington University, and offers Alexandra (Lex) a position on his upcoming excavation in Egypt. She doesn't just blindly leap at the chance; she wants to be sure she can afford to make the commitment--but Bahur has made sure she has no reason to refuse.

And as events unfold, we realize that her mysterious family history, and Marcus Bahur, the rest of his team, and the excavation in Egypt are tightly connected. Nor are those "dreams" just dreams. Lex is descended from people, not quite human, who have amazing powers--some of which she has already started to manifest.

Oh, and the fate of the world is at stake, depending on how fast she can master her powers, and what choices she makes when she meets her real father.

This is the first book of a trilogy, and so not everything can be wrapped up in this book. There is, however, a satisfying conclusion to some major plot threads.

I liked Lex, though sometimes I really wanted to shake her. Marcus is harder to like, though Lex does stand up to him and he gets better over the course of the story. There are some plot holes, and one or two things that just made me say, "No, that just doesn't work, even in a fantasy."

Still it's an engaging story, and worth a listen.

I bought this audiobook. ( )

Echo in Time was a fun read for me. I was excited to read this and could not put it down. I have always loved time travel, historical, and mythological stories. This one had all three plus a love story.

Ancient Egypt has always been a favorite. With this story, I believe the mix of archeology/mythology and romance blended nicely. The best thing is the characters explain enough of the Egyptian lore for those who are not familiar with Egypt. They can understand what the characters are talking about without being dropped with too much information to over barren them and slow down the story. The author sprinkled the information throughout the story well. The way the author does the time travel feels like the way George R. R. Martin did on Game of Thrones for the three-eye raven.

Lex Larson felt realistic. Her reactions to information she receives throughout the story felt credible. I have read stories where characters are okay with what they received and jumps right in. I dislike those kinds of characters. What will work for me on those is if the personality matches the character. With Lex, the confusion, frustration, and working things out in her head felt true to her.
Marcus Bahur was an interesting character. The conflict of who he is and how he feels for Lex was something I enjoyed reading. He is a protector. He will protect those he cares about and those they assign him to guard. The bantering he did with Lex was cute. Marcus’s secretive demeanor matches his character and personality well.

I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the rest in this trilogy. I recommend this book to those who love a Game of Thrones Three Eye Raven time warp feel and Ancient Egypt. ( )

Here is the thing about Lindsey Fairleigh's writing for me: I fall into it and don't resurface for hours. It's something about the way she allows the reader to connect with the book's protagonist so that I never feel distant from the story.

I'm not saying this book is without flaws. There's quite a bit of info dumping, some cliched paranormal sex-and-romance stuff, and I'm betting some historical inaccuracies (but, hey, I'm letting any historical inaccuracies slide because the book is about nearly immortal super beings who were mistaken for gods and if that isn't a time to suspend your disbelief, I don't know what is). But I enjoyed reading it because I enjoyed being with Lex. Even when I was frustrated with her, I still completely understood her. Another thing I like from Fairleigh's writing is that family, both blood family and found family, is always important to her characters.

Trigger Warning: There is an attempted rape in this book and a trial about said rape that includes victim blaming. (Note: Lex the character and the author are obviously against that victim blaming.)

I freely chose to review an ARC of an author unknown to me and I can't wait to read the rest of the series! Ms. Fairleigh had me spell bound and rapidly reading. At the time of her birth someone stole into the nursery and marked her. Years later, Alexandra Larson was a graduate student of Archeology at the University of Washington, having visions of the future and the past that she couldn't have possibly known and thought she was going crazy. She was offered a place on a wonderful ancient dig to translate ancient languages for the next year, and it was all expenses paid! I liked the way Lex stood up to Marcus Bahur and they butted heads often, but then when they kissed it was as if their souls united and became one. ( )
