I wish I had saved it for my 2021 challenge because it fit a lot of the prompts. I really enjoyed the characters and the world building, and I'll definitely be picking up book 2. I did find it a bit more "adult" than other YA novels, not the entire thing but a few lines every few chapters were far from PG. Interesting world that seems old but is really far future Earth. Mysterious magic that isn't fully explained yet. Powerful teenaged Queen but refreshingly not beautiful and good at everything. Lots of gruff soldiers with hearts of gold. Super evil bad guys and girls. Mysterious dashing bad guy or is he a good guy? Not perfect but I'm in for book 2. The Queen of the tearing I really loved this book. It was a great start to high fantsey series. The only reason I gave it four stars was the world building. It was a little week and not as developed at points but overall I really loved it. I was really confused when the world was actually occurred but by the end i figured it out. It has a cool concept and I really loved how each chapter has a quote from history books. I also love the focus on books and reading. I am a life long reader and that just makes me smile.  I really did like how the book switched perspectives as well. I almost wish it was done more often in he book. I know the story is kelsea but I would liked to see POV from more characters. I like how magic was introduced and I hope we see more of it. I really love kelsea as a character and I am excited to learn more about her path in future books.  This book is both a great mix of magic and distopian novels. I rec you check it out. I am exited for the next book to see where it goes.  here is my video review of it  http://youtu.be/7JhI_k4wUAM sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

HTML: A #1 Indie Next Pick and LibraryReads Selection Magic, adventure, mystery, and romance combine in this epic debut in which a young princess must reclaim her dead mother's throne, learn to be a rulerâ??and defeat the Red Queen, a powerful and malevolent sorceress determined to destroy her. On her nineteenth birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa. But though she may be inexperienced and sheltered, Kelsea is not defenseless: Around her neck hangs the Tearling sapphire, a jewel of immense magical power; and accompanying her is the Queen's Guard, a cadre of brave knights led by the enigmatic and dedicated Lazarus. Kelsea will need them all to survive a cabal of enemies who will use every weaponâ??from crimson-caped assassins to the darkest blood magicâ??to prevent her from wearing the crown. Despite her royal blood, Kelsea feels like nothing so much as an insecure girl, a child called upon to lead a people and a kingdom about which she knows almost nothing. But what she discovers in the capital will change everything, confronting her with horrors she never imagined. An act of singular daring will throw Kelsea's kingdom into tumult, unleashing the vengeance of the tyrannical ruler of neighboring Mortmesne: the Red Queen, a sorceress possessed of the darkest magic. Now Kelsea will begin to discover whom among the servants, aristocracy, and her own guard she can trust. But the quest to save her kingdom and meet her destiny has only just begunâ??a wondrous journey of self-discovery and a trial by fire that will make her a legend . . . if she can survive. This book will be a beautifully designed package with illustrated endpapers, a map of the Tearling, and a ribbon Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

Fantastic world building, such compelling characters that stay with you long after you've finished reading. Well-written and solid plotting (of both kinds!).
Kelsea is a true hero.
However, I would not suggest this is a YA book. There is gore, violence, and brutality (and plenty of swearing). Some tough stuff to read through but never gratuitous. ( )
