Describes the Great War as seen through the eyes of North Carolina doughboys who fought on the western front in Belgium and France. a good examination of the lives of common American footsoldiers (i.e. "doughboys") in World War I. Using oral histories that he conducted in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Marshall was able to turn a static academic read into a dynamic narrative of the experiences of the doughboys. He discusses the recruiting, training, transportation of soldiers in the 1910s, as well as their roles in the front-line trenches in the "Great War," along with their attitudes, before an after the war, towards President Woodrow Wilson, war in general, and the differences between the British, French, Belgium and German people. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
