Terrible read. The author spends so much time having her main character break the fourth wall to give commentary on her attitude and life, I couldn't take this as a serious "thriller." There's a ton of telling not showing. ( )
This story revolves around Claire Morgan, a detective in the Lake of the Ozarks, who has a past that we get hints of. She is called to investigate a murder that leads her, eventually, into dealing with her past - in a most frightening way.
It took me a while to get into the story, but once I did, I didn't want to put it down. Ms. Ladd does a very good job of entwining two plots without confusing the reader. She gave enough hints to make me think I was getting things figured out, yet not enough to give away the mystery. ( )
