Nick is a forensic entomologist who's hired by grieving widow Kathryn after one of her best male friends is found dead of an apparent suicide. The book is fascinating with all of the information & science jargon having to do with bugs like flies, scorpions, bees, etc. Nick starts investigating for Kathryn and includes her in the investigation as a requirement to help her overcome her fear of insects. Delving into the mystery puts Nick in the cross hairs of the local sheriff (who has a history with Kathryn, the victim, & her deceased husband.) Nick lives in the bug world & isn't really good with human connection and is analytical and humorous. Kathryn is tightly wound and isn't sure if she really wants answers or not. Another dead body happens and everything Kathryn has know is put to the test along with Nick's bug evidence. Looking forward to reading the next in series ( ) This is the first book in the Bug Man series. The protagonist is Dr. Nicholas Polchak - a forensic entomologist - someone who studies insects and uses that knowledge to help solve crimes. Needless to say, the book centers on the subject of forensic entomology. While that is interesting (witness the immense popularity of Kathy Reichs in a similar vein), the story is well written and has a fascinating set of major and minor characters. AS a good mystery should, it has lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. This is my second read in the series, and I have now purchased most of the others, so I am sold. This is a marvelous mystery, well written and with wonderful characters. Dr. Nicholas Polchak is a forensic entomologist, AKA The Bug Man. Katheryn Guilford hires him to help her prove that a good friend did not commit suicide. This is a complicated story with lots of details about entomology and how it is used in the field of forensics. Basically, Nick studies the life cycle of insects that feed and reproduce on dead bodies. Sometimes a tad gruesome if those kind of descriptions bother you, but it is fascinating science that can totally destroy a carefully planned alibi. I'll admit that I love this field, have read books on the topic as well as love to watch "true crime" shows on tv. My favorites revolve around the Body Farm in Tennessee and the work of Dr. William Bass, Dr. Bass's work on the breakdown of the human body and the huge part that the insect world plays that breakdown are fascinating reads. My thanks to the folks over on DorothyL for recommending this series, I can't wait to read more adventures of the Bug Man. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

Forensic entomologist Nick Polchak (a.k.a. the Bug Man) is hired by thirty-year-old Kathryn Guilford, who is terrified of bugs, to solve her friend's death. When Polchak stumbles into the mystery of how Kathryn's husband was killed years earlier, the action kicks into high gear -- and Polchak finds himself on the run with his client from someone who will do anything to keep a secret. This fast-paced murder mystery is more than the typical "Christian fiction;"it is good clean fun -- on a thrill ride. Biblical values are implicit rather than explicit, and its fascinating elements provoke thought on a conscience, consequences, and world-views. But mostly, this book is a sizzler of a story that will not let you go. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
