Overall, I enjoyed this book! My favorite thing about this book was its formatting. Each page contained a paragraph or two of text and the rest of the page was full of pictures, captions, and speech bubbles, which really made the information come alive. The text was very easy to comprehend and the layout was aesthetically pleasing which made it very engaging for readers. I also liked how the author included pronunciation keys for more difficult vocabulary. For instance, on page 18, the author was describing the Shoshone chief Cameahwait and wrote, "pronounced CAME-a-WAIT," next to Cameahwait in parentheses so readers would know how to pronounce it. I think this would be especially helpful for struggling readers because they would be less likely to give up when seeing difficult and unfamiliar words if there was a pronunciation key next to them. The main purpose of this book was to teach students about Lewis and Clark's expedition across the United States. Readers are exposed to many different aspects of Lewis and Clark's journey that they may have not learned before.

I would recommend this book for students third-fifth grade because there it contains a lot of information that younger students may have trouble comprehending. ( )
