I read this book years ago, and frankly, I couldn't even begin to tell you anything about the characters or even how it ends. I will tell you this book is solely responsible for me never allowing anyone to handcuff me to anything. Like all of King's books, it will scare the stuffing out of you and keep you up all night. ( )

Nachdem ich bei zwei Bücher von Dean Koontz aufgegeben habe, jetzt wieder ein Buch von einem Autor, der weiss wie es geht. 40 Seiten und es ist vielversprechend.

Leider geht es nicht so vielversprechend weiter.
Die Zwiegespräche mit den Stimmen im Kopf und das (zusätzliche) Ende, nachdem das Buch eigentlich schon ein akzeptables Ende hat, sind einfach zu viel. ( )

I don’t mind long books. Far from it. this isn’t even long. It’s just slow.

It doesn’t take this many pages to tell the story King was trying to tell. At points it gets like re-hashing word vomit to fill time.

I kept thinking that SOMETHING I hadn’t predicted would happen at Dark Score lake.


This book is like watching a SLOW car wreck. and I found myself not caring if the car would actually crash.

This book had such a good premise about the psychological state of our victim, but failed to execute on it for like 250 pages. ( )

This is one of my favourite books, I started it (foolishly) before bed, finished it in one sitting and then didn’t sleep without a light on for a week. It narrates so well, it’s so real-life, gripping, flits back and forth through her life/past/trauma, their relationship, losing grip on what is and isn’t real and desperately trying to survive. You’re right there with her trying to work out what her options are, how on Earth she can survive and most importantly what is hallucinations and what is reality. This is one of the rare books that sticks with me and still freaks me out, typical King playing with those deep dark fears we all have, a must read ( )
