A somewhat embellished short account of what might have gone on during the time the Bismark left port to it's end a few days later. Moral, no matter how superior your ship and its guns are, don't pit it unsupported against even an aging moderately sized navy. ( ) A quick and easy read. Forester sticks closely to the facts hour by hour and day by day, but puts in a lot of dialogue, which probably qualifies as historical fiction. I learned something about naval warfare during the Second World War and about the importance of the Bismarck episode. The book is simply enough written to be suitable for upper elementary students, I would recommend it to homeschoolers. I love the movie version of this story, and finally found/purchased a copy for my reading pleasure. However, having recently read books by Edward L. Beach and Alistair MacLean, I was less than thrilled with Sink the Bismarck! It is a good, solid read, but it didn't grab me nor draw me in as those other authors' books did. I do recommend this book, but you might want to find a free copy first. My copy is going to be passed on to someone else who will enjoy it. This is the first C. J. Forester I have read, but I believe i shall tackle another one as I liked his concise description. He paints the picture just well enough for me to see it in my mind's eye and that is what it is all about. That is why I do not like my style, my style is (probably like me) too loquacious, verbose, and sometimes pedantic. However, I get better as I get older. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
In 1941, Hitler's deadly Bismarck, the fastest battleship afloat, broke out into the Atlantic. Its mission: to cut the lifeline of British shipping and win the war with one mighty blow. How the Royal Navy tried to meet this threat and its desperate attempt to bring the giant Bismarck to bay is the story C. S. Forester tells with mounting excitement and suspense.
