This volume presents the very first Sub-Mariner story from 1939, a run in with Daredevil from DD #7 (also the first appearance of DD in his famous red suit) plus the first 18 installments from TTA.
Gene Colan's shadowy, even murky style was uniquely suited to depicting Subbie's underwater adventures and Stan Lee's writing gives these stories some of the mythic quality also used to great effect for Thor during the same period.
The final issue reprinted in this volume sees the return of The Sub-Mariner's creator Bill Everett and there are helping hand lent by Jack Kirby and Roy Thomas as well. ( )
