Nothing like a good dystopian novel to get into! This series is fast-paced and quick, enough action to keep you reading. You never know what's going to happen but you can bet it will involve running through tunnels and alleyways, always being chased. Good guys, bad guys, crazy mixed-up heads of state and power hungry military leaders - they're all included.

This is the second in the Legend series and continues the adventures of June and Day as they head to Denver - to the war-front - to help the Patriots in their bid to take over the government of the Republic. I wish more effort was given in this book to describing the scenery. Sure, it's Denver, it's snowing, there's skyscrapers and a great wall. But I never feel like I can visualize much of the cities other than what the rooms look like or maybe a little bit of what a squalid slum might appear to be. Are the mountains still there? What of the prairies? What of the streets? How much has changed? Apparently Lodo is still Lodo but that's all I'm catching.

It's a surprise to see the Colonies for the first time. They are - and thy aren't - like what I imagined.

I'll read the next in the series. I'd like to see what happens to June and to Day. I'm sure they'll be chased. And caught. And they'll escape. And be chased again.

I like it, but I felt like something was missing. There were also a few things that bothered me. Other than that, a great book and I really like June ( )

Anyways upon rereading I,,, have some thoughts.

THE POSITIVE

- Okay first of all reading this was SO nostalgic?? like omfg I was just being hit with these WAVES of nostalgia

- Also the characters are everything. I love them all so much.

- the plot and world building and all that important shit was good. don't have much to say on it, but it's good.

THE NEGATIVE

- This book was my first time experiencing this series in a format other than audiobook and honestly,,, June and Day's voices aren't different enough. During dialogue and whatnot, sure, but just that narration in general? I couldn't really tell who was who most of the time. 10/10 recommend the audiobooks if you're struggling with this...

- Okay. Look. I hate to say they should have been aged up. But. They should have been aged up. The fact is the amount of complete and total faith,,, just about everyone,,, put in June and Day? was really hard for me to believe. Like they're fifteen. They're kids. And while I'm not saying kids aren't capable of this shit, I have a hard time believing everyone would actually take these kids quite that seriously.

- Somewhat relatedly? the romance. look I love June and Day. ship them 100%. but. they're literally fifteen. I can't help but scoff a little at all the angst and talk of having a life together. Like no matter what plays out, the chances of them actually staying together for the rest of their lives at fifteen? are not high. and I feel like most fifteen year olds are... aware of that fact? and they just. aren't.

- and LASTLY. This book suffered from an unfortunate case of BURY YOUR GAYS, and I am NOT HERE FOR THAT. Look I love this book. I really do. Any of my other issues with it wouldn't have actually affected my old four star rating. But burying the gays? I am so not here for that, and this is 1000% the reason I'm knocking off that half star. I'm so fucking pissed at this honestly.

VVV cringy old review, read at your own risk VVV

Hahaha, so I read this book a month ago, and I don't remember it too well, and I just don't think I'm going to be able to review it properly...
I do have a couple of thoughts about it though.

● It felt sort of incomplete... like, no more unresolved than a book in the middle of a series should be, but... I felt like I couldn't form a fully formed opinion on it until I'd read the last book... Which was sort of weird, because normally, even if that opinion shifts slightly after reading the later books, I have no problem with forming an opinion on a book in the middle of a series... I don't really know if that made sense, but... It was my biggest problem with the book.
● There was also a bit too much teen angst for my taste. STOP WITH THE LOVE TRIANGLE ALREADY! And also all the dumb angst between June and Day. Ugh.
● I did, however, love the time spent in The Colonies. It was such a contrast from The Republic, but no less messed up.
● And overall, I did really enjoy it. I just apparently mostly remember the bad stuff. Lovely. ( )
