Now I'm not assigning this a rating because I didn't really read it, just flicked through ti quickly, but it does look well-done and interesting. Several different spreads to try and a lot of ideas about how you can read the cards.

If I get back into tarot readings this would be a good next book.

Over the years, I’ve read a few things by Barbara, and I’m once again impressed with her knowledge and her ability to convey her ideas with clear and concise language.

I picked up this book from my local library because I’m still considered a novice with Tarot. I enjoyed the new spreads and explanations that she presented within the book. I also learned new techniques about reading the spreads – namely, to look at the different lines the cards make, which add to the depth of the readings.

Up until now, I had just been relying on the Celtic Cross for everything, now I have multiple spreads to choose from for different questions and situations.

With a title like Tarot Spreads, you expect to find a good selection of spreads in this book, and Barbara Moore does not disappoint. Quickly counting the index of spreads, I came up with 76 spreads, although some of them are variations of each other. But there are several books out there that list tarot spreads. Read this one if you're interested in what goes into the making of a spread. Moore devotes a chapter to discussing the design principles of effective spreads, showing that a spread is more than just the position descriptions, but also conveys meaning through how the cards are positioned. Other chapters walk you through modifying existing spreads to meet your needs and designing your own spreads from scratch. Moore also includes a chapter on techniques: things to do during readings to give you new perspectives on the cards, get unstuck during difficult readings, etc. This book does not talk about what the cards mean or the structure of a tarot deck, so it wouldn't work as someone's very first book about the tarot, but it's an excellent choice for someone who wants to learn more about spreads.
