I love this type of book. It inspires me and reassures me that normal people are able to do outstanding things. Like hike the Application Trail at 60 years of age.

It's on my bucket list. I have no illusions that I would/could attempt the whole thing ... but I would like to try a week or two out witting bears and sleeping under the stars.

I was a girl scout and I think you can take the girl out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the girl.

I loved Wild and actually read it twice. This accounting of the long arduous walk/hike over 2000 miles on the AT focused more on the relationships developed on the walk and less on the demons that were carried along. Tucked into the back pack. The sort of demons along for the ride at 60 years of age are the personality traits and quirks that have evolved over a lifetime.
Anyway I Liked It very much. It is so far the best AT book I have read.

Wish her photographs were included. Felt a visceral dislike for character named Jed. Wounder if he and Leslie's Mass' daughter had a relationship after the first half of the book. It was never mentioned again.

Traveling to Savanna some years ago we encountered some thru hikers walking as long side the roaf. In Pennsylvania we came even closer. Almost Close Enough To Smell Them. Dusty looking with walking sticks bandanas and back packs I felt that I would love to join them. They Were Skinny blonde young and athletic looking. Hike hardened. ( )

Leslie has, given the Best Showing of what Hiking is like for a Woman. It is the most well rounding Writing of the challenges and inspirations of Hiking the AT. This is one of those rare reads, that I will go back too, time and time again. Plan to get a paperback copy, that I will loan out, as well, as carry. Leslie has done, what most of Us, can't won't or simply don't want too. Though I would love to do this trip. know that it is not ever going to happen. In Beauty may she walk allows me to crawl into a warm comfortable chair , and travel through some rough terrain. Can feel the pine needles under my boot with out every leaving my armchair. Have been reading this book, for Two nights, am half way through the narrative. Looking forward to what she will tell me and show me, am honored that She is willing to take me with her. When Leslie slips, I feel her pain and know her frustation. Every girl, will understand her trying to keep up with the boys. There is so many differnt reasons for Everyone to read this story. Man or Woman ,Child or Adult will enjoy Leslie's Story. For those of You, Who want to see a good review, before You look at a book,Let this be You guide. In Beauty May She walk is worth a look. ( )

This book was a wonderful inspiration for me. I've thought about thru-hiking the trail before, but always thought "I can't do that!" This book showed me that I really can. It was nice to hear a woman's perspective on backpacking for once. I enjoyed reading about the people she met along the way, the problems she encountered, and her triumphs. I recommend this book to any woman who ever thought "I can't do that." ( )
