During a famine the wife suggest they leave the children in the woods so they will no longer have to feed them. The children are left deep in the woods where they become lost and hungry. The children stumble upon a ginger bread house while trying to find their way home. The owner of the house is a mean witch who wishes to eat them. The children outsmart the mean witch and find there way back to their father. This story is a little scary for young children and my children didn’t enjoy it. My daughter was actually upset that the children returned to their father after he abandoned them. ( ) This book is a "retelling" of the original Grimm fairytale, but even so, I still think it is dark. Of course, I read these stories when I was younger, and yes, they did scare me, but they're classics, so I still think that children should be aware and familiar with them. At the same time, it's definitely not something that I believe should be necessarily taught or read in a school, especially to the younger elementary students. It is something that they should read when they are ready, or when their parents want them to. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
