After his near death experience only months earlier, Cooper's behavior is rapidly deteriorating. So what does Ruby do? She adds a new roommate into the mix. When her friend Ronnie is abruptly called away for a family emergency, Ruby takes in Peyta, Ronnie's highly intelligent and overly observant teenage daughter. With an increasingly unstable Cooper in the house, Ruby fears for Peyta's safety. But when Peyta's behaviors become as perplexing as Cooper's, Ruby finds herself juggling a series of lies to ensure their safety as well as her own... Until the lies, and the bodies, start dropping. HAUNTED picks up right after the ending from CAGED. To start off Ruby having Cooper live with her is pure genius. Cooper starts the book off in a bit of a double personality funk but the reasons why become clear and Peyta coming to stay with them becomes a huge blessing in disguise. Peyta was fun to get to know. She turns out to have a bigger role in the supernatural then we could have imagined and I'm dreading how Ronnie will act if she happens to find out what really happened while Peyta stayed with Ruby. I still don't know where I stand with Sean. I love him one moment and dislike him the next. He has some issues he needs to work out and Sophie needs to jump off a huge cliff..... Matty is a nice addition to the cast. You can tell right off he is kinda crushing on Ruby. I don't see Ruby ever feeling that way towards him but its kinda fun watching him pine while she has no clue.
The story line for HAUNTED was a great mystery that I didn't solve until closer to the reveal. I love that Amber writes each book with a different issue that gets resolved by the end of it, while having other little side things going on that continue to the next book. Once I start reading I have a hard time putting the books down. Each book so far has been an easy read with a great pace and flow. If you don't read self published books I recommend you make an exception and pick up book 1 CAGED because you wont want to miss one moment. ( )
