Book 4 in the Embroidery Mysteries, this time Marcy must help clear her friends from a murder charge.
Oh my god, I hate the love triangle, please make it stop. Sigh. Okay, with that out of my system on to the rest of the book.
I found the mystery sort of unbelievable but not unforgivably so and I did like that for once the Marcy wasn't the suspect and I felt that her search for answers and involvement were a lot more believable.
I especially liked her insistence on searching for a particular characters named Tawny and how that all played out in the end. Overall I liked the story of the mystery, I was not as happy with the way it played out and how stupid everyone involved had to be to keep it going through a whole book.

Something else I liked, and found different, was how Marcy reacted to her feelings of being ignored and not being the center of attention and how she acknowledged that it was selfish...but then kind of kept on acting that way. It does take a bit of an ego to think only you can solve a murder mystery.

As for the crafting, I liked the inclusion of the Irish embroidery style, which I've never heard of and would like to look into and I am liking the sense of community that is built around her shop and the different embroidery styles.

Still fun, still well worth reading, just I can't wait for the love triangle to end. The characters and their relationships are the main reason to read these books and this is seriously dragging the fun of that down. ( )

Marcy is startled when she learns that her BF's husband and one of her current gentle friends have been arrested for the murder of their Frat brother. Not believing that either is capable of the deed, Marcy sets out to uncover the truth since neither one of them is talking. Keeping her needlework shop running while looking into her friends' past proves tricky but Marcy is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.

I like the way the characters interact and how the needlework shop still plays a part of the story. ( )

This book was a bit of a disappointment - I still enjoyed it but I expected it to be better. It has all the right elements: great, likeable characters, interesting plot line, a well written setting. But Marcy seemed a bit self-centered, a prone to crying a lot. The "love triangle" isn't going anywhere and I'm tired of hearing about how gun-shy she is, so the lack of forward momentum in that area makes for a lack of interest on my part. I won't say I've given up on this series, but I won't be eagerly awaiting the next book either. When it comes out, I'll give it a read and decide then whether to keep on going. ( )

Marcy Singer, owner of the Seven-Year Stitch embroidery shop, finds herself wrapped up in another murder mystery when two of her closest friends are accused of killing their fellow fraternity brother. It’s Saint Patrick’s Day, and the green beer is flowing at Todd Calloway’s pub, the Brew Crew. Alpha Sigma Phi’s reunion turns deadly when Graham Stott is shot to death in the pub’s back room, and Todd and friend Blake MacKenzie are found with the victim AND a gun. Well, neither man can tell the police exactly what happened, and with the evidence against them, they are placed at the top of the suspects list. Marcy isn’t going to sit by and let a man she’s sort of dating (Todd) and her best friend’s husband (Blake) go to jail for murder when she simply KNOWS they’re innocent…aren’t they?

THE LONG STITCH GOOD NIGHT is an enjoyable continuation of the An Embroidery Mystery series. While this book could probably be read stand-alone, I’m glad I had read the previous book, THREAD RECKONING, so I knew some of the backstory. I would describe THE LONG STITCH GOOD NIGHT as more focused on the relationships between the characters than the mystery itself, but for me, that worked in this book. The love triangle continues between Marcy and her two men, Detective Ted Nash and Todd Calloway. Marcy also uncovers a very tangled web between the victim, other members of the fraternity, and a mystery woman from their past who may hold clues to uncovering the murderer.

Marcy sewing “shoptalk” was a fun addition to the story, and I was intrigued by her Saint Patrick’s Day themed project of Mountmellick embroidery. I’d recommend this one to mystery readers who enjoy craft cozies and don’t mind them being heavy on the romance. I’m looking forward to finding out what comes next for Marcy. ( )
