This was the first dedicated book on mythology that I read as a little kid. Like with the Scary Stories series, the art stayed with me a long time. As I read Gaiman's Norse Mythology, I kept remembering reading this book as a kid, comparing the little differences in tone and story beats. The book manages to stay pretty true to the myths while not being super explicit with the, er, less savory bits. ( )

Genre: Legend

Review: This is a good example of a legend because at first it talks about all of ancient Greece's gods, then goes in to tell legends involving them. Parts of it (the humans in the stories) could have been true, but much of it (such as the various gods) are not. However these stories have been passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.

Age Appropriateness: Intermediate

Character: Zeus would be a protagonist because they believed him to be the god over all the other gods, and he was just and was not cruel.
