Een meid loopt elke dag opnieuw (telkens alsof het de laatste keer is) met haar spulletjes de slaapkamer van haar meester in, trekt de gordijnen open, ververst de lakens, poetst de kamer ... en krijgt er vervolgens met de zweep van langs voor een of andere, al dan niet vermeende, nalatigheid. Het ritueel herhaalt zich, met minieme variaties, niet zelden tegen de zin van zowel de meid als de meester. Beiden zoeken ze naar de perfectie - ritueel en straf lopen ineen. Hoop en moedeloosheid wisselen elkaar af.
Iets gelijkaardigs - een telkens opnieuw vertellen van eenzelfde situatie - deed Coover in Briar Rose. (

best thing about it is the title :) Very slim repetitive volume of a maid entering room, making some mistake for which she has to be spanked. Thinks it is cleverer than it is.
