Multiple Sclerosis can often cause cognitive problems due to physical changes in the brain. It is essential that MS patients with these problems bring them to the attention of their doctors, and insist on treatment. Until recently, many doctors dismissed these problems as the natural results of the stress of dealing with a serious physical illness.Gingold’s book is inspiring. In an anecdotal style, he describes the problems that he has had, and how he has successfully dealt with them. He also suggests many helpful resources. A fair and balanced look at what it is like to be living with the disease of MS. Gingold is honest about his experience, but the book does sway into the one dimensional. I worry that the reader will be taken in by the way Gingold handled his illness, and others, especially those who specifically gravitate to this book for how well known in the MS field, may not be able to achieve what he has. In the army they say, "this is not THE way, but A way." I feel it could be applied here. Otherwise it is a fair look at the disease, and no complaints. Facing the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis is a well written and informative resource for people with MS and those people close to them. Although the title reads like a textbook, the book is actually more an autobiography about one man's struggle with the physical and cognitive challenges presented by the disease.Jeffrey N. Gingold tells his story fluently, skipping much medical terminology, creating a book that is interesting and intelligible for a layperson. Interspersed throughout the book are helpful tips for navigating a person's journey with multiple sclerosis. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand multiple sclerosis, especially from the patient's point of view. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
When attorney Jeffrey N. Gingold misplaced his wife on the living room couch, and became lost while driving just blocks from his home, little did he know that he was experiencing a hidden symptom of multiple sclerosis: cognitive difficulties. Facing the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis is a courageous and compelling personal account of one man's anguishing struggle with this aspect of the disease. It was written for the silent majority of MS patients who are privately dealing with MS cognitive symptoms and potential disabilities.
