So, this book was...interesting? It's ridiculous, but readable. I kinda enjoyed it? The writing is...not terrible, but certainly not good. It's very imaginative in the wildest ways possible. If you are looking for coherent story that answers every question you may have, this is not the book for you. If you want to just strap in and go on a crazy, constantly (and I do mean constantly) insane ride then maybe give it a whirl! ( )

This was one of the hardest books to get through that I've ever read or attempted to read, and that's saying something. I picked it up and put it down quite a few times because it hurt my brain so much that I couldn't deal with it. Being a fan of America's Next Top Model (I don't know why; it's a guilty pleasure, okay?), I thought that I would be able to understand and appreciate it for the fun of it, but instead I just felt confused and a little sickened due to the, I dunno, cheesiness of it all. To each their own and all: this book just didn't cut it to my tastes. (And no - I didn't actually finish the whole thing, but I read enough and skimmed the rest that I think I deserve pats on the back just for the effort.) ( )

So. Incredibly. Weird. And. Not. In. A. Good. Way. Unintentionally hilarious in parts, bizarre, dark, immature, and grotesque. The book has pseudo-psychological crap thrown in, there is no concept of time, there are multiple editorial errors and the acknowledgment at the end is obviously written by someone who doesn’t live in the world the rest of us inhabit. Ten pages of a thank you to, among other things large bodies of water and cafés. Seriously. And I won’t even go into the numerous books that were obviously pilfered and badly re-used. It just beggars belief.

I tried. I really tried giving Tyra the benefit of the doubt. I read the first 60 pages and it was just to poorly written to continue. It was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets Cinderella in a dystopian mess. It was written by someone who thinks they know what teens want, but really has no clue. She probably read some YA books like The Hunger Games, saw there was a bit of a formula, grabbed some ideas from some classics and then just started writing. Modelland was just outrageously bad. ( )
