Willett is the link between medicine and bolstering your health so you minimize medical intervention. In other words, learn how your food (and also fitness) choices can help you reduce both incidence and severity of chronic disease. Willett offers no nonsense, in depth analyses into each component of our diet and how it impacts the integrity of our system (mind and body). There is no super nutrient, and we should stop looking for one, is also made clear. The bottom line is that a varied diet, much in the Mediterranean fashion but appropriated to your region's bounty, along with lifelong weight management, is a guarantee that you have done your part to stay healthy. Informative and well documented. You will leave the book with an understanding of the impact of dietary choices on your health and life style. I am not much on the receipes, but the knowledge of healthy eating (why and what) has made a difference. It is an easy and enjoyable read. brooksbooks wrote "if you only read one diet book - this should be the one." Cannot make that statement, but of the dietary books I've read, this is my choice. If you only read one diet book - this should be the one. The main focus of the book is not a diet per se, but rather enabling the reader to critically interpret new report on other diets - particularly those based diets from elsewhere in the world. The author also uses large data sets from his own research the Harvard School of Public Health to describe trends in diet in diet and health. At the end of the day, it is calories in and calories out - but he does a good job of describing why. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

There's an ever-growing body of evidence supporting the relatively simple principles that are behind healthy eating-yet the public seems to be more confused than ever. Never-ending promotions of fad diets get in the way of people making healthy choices. In this revised and updated edition of Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy, Dr. Willett uses eye-opening research to explain the relative importance of various food groups and supplements as well as how to choose foods with the best types of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. He reveals why controlling weight-after not smoking-is the single most important factor for a long, healthy life, why eating some types of fat is beneficial and necessary, how to choose wisely between different carbohydrates, how to pick the right protein packages, and what fruits and vegetables-not juices!-fight disease. He also translates this essential information into simple menu plans and tasty recipes, providing an important resource for families everywhere. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

This book was recommended by a nutritionist, and it was a very good read—even-handed and supported with carefully selected scientific evidence. ( )
