I really enjoyed reading Gator Cleans House by Mercer Mayer. It is a very cute book about Gator who is doing his chores and cleaning his house when he is interrupted by his friends asking him to come hang out with them. They offer to help and come inside and everything they try to help clean, they make even messier. When they think they are done, they ask Gator to come hang out again and he tells them he still has to clean his house, which now is even dirtier than before. I enjoyed the illustrations the most. Throughout the book it shows all of Gator’s friends laughing and having fun trying to clean while Gator is in the background scowling every time they try to clean something and make it worse. Especially when they get hungry and make a mess in the kitchen and leave a bunch of dishes to be cleaned, as well. I think this is a great book for children to read to enjoy the pictures and understand that when they help their friends, they need to make sure they are actually helping and not making things worse.
