A bit on the twee side for me. Sort of a modern take on Peter Pan but based on the Disney animation rather than the original J M Barrie story. The book ends rather abruptly, but the story is wrapped up in the sequel.

OK, but it's not really a keeper for me.

Odd fun, slow to explain the backstory but it all works quite well and eventually comes together. Probably better for US residents who have a sense of how small town america works, because some of it seems a little odd, but that's just how things are.

It's a small town, with an old (for the US) park and a museum. Nearly all of the children (or those who've now grown up, but had their childhoods there) played in the old park with it's large oak at the centre, and many of them became friends with the pixies who lived thereabout, especially if they were in need of friends. Thistle is one of those pixies, but she intensely irritated her tribe's king and found herself human sized, and naked in the town's fountain. She's not sure what she needs to do to earn a reprieve but first she needs help from all the friends she's made over many many years. Dusty the museum's archivist can't quite believe that her childhood friend might have come back to life in human form, but withe the museum and associated woodland under threat from a childhood friendship turned sour she'll accept any help she can get. And it's not like she has relationships to get in the way, although Thistle thinks she can probably help there.

Don't take it too seriously, and it's quite fun. The Pixie tribal world needs a bit more explaining as it only appears late on and seems to contradict some of the earlier information. Dusty's health conditions are also somewhat heavily handed and overplayed but does work as a good foil for her more outgoing brother. ( )

An enjoyable, quick read. Not much of a mystery to it, more of a romance. ( )
