I couldn't get into this book last year and ended up skimming my way to the end.

Then, I watched the series on HBO which I thought was GREAT, so I decided to try the book again.

I finished it without skimming this time, but I still don't like the book at all. I find the dialogue and some of the scenes ridiculous and over the top. THANK GOD they cut out all the crap when they made the series.

I'm leaving my rating at one star.

My advice is don't even bother with the book, but you definitely should watch the HBO series. ( )

I haven't read Gone Girl. Only saw the movie and it was very good. I haven't watched Sharp Objects, the TV series, yet, but I've heard it's very good. A friend of mine read the book (hated it) and saw the series (loved it). Our discussion about both made me curious to check out this audiobook.

I'm sorry to say that the story never really grabbed me. I think there was a lot of wasted potentials. From what I've heard, the TV show makes up for what's missing in the book, which is full of extremely miserable and lame characters and character interactions. A story that should be gripping and suspenseful, yes, maybe even shocking and disturbing, wasn't any of that. It dragged along for the most part.

I wasn't surprised at who the murderer was. I wasn't surprised about that twist in the end (was it even a proper twist?).

I'm sorry but that book wasn't for me. I'll still watch the TV show though and hope that the filmmakers were able to get out of that story what the author IMHO couldn't.

The narrator was Ann Marie Lee and she did a pretty good job, given the material. 4 stars for her. ( )

5is book was exactly what I expected when I checked it out if the library, and that was a good thing. I found it to be interesting and I wasn’t sure exactly where it was going to end up. I especially enjoyed the characters even though there were times I was yelling at our protagonist to not do stupid things. It didn’t work. I see that HBO is going to do a series based on it and I think it will be very good in that medium. ( )

Started the book and read about 3/4 of it. Then wasn't interested in finishing it. Found it on my Kindle and wrapped it up. Most of the characters struck me as selfish, weak, and sometimes evil. I really did not enjoy this one. ( )

“The photo showed a dark-eyed girl with a feral grin and too much hair for her head. The kind of girl who’d be described by teachers as a ‘handful.’ I liked her.”
“Sometimes I think illness sits inside every woman, waiting for the right moment to bloom. I have known so many sick women all my life. Women with chronic pain, with ever-gestating diseases. Women with conditions. Men, sure, they have bone snaps, they have backaches, they have a surgery or two, yank out a tonsil, insert a shiny plastic hip. Women get consumed. Not surprising considering the sheer amount of traffic a woman’s body experiences.”
