Mother was oringally Hypatia college project to launch a cheap satellite to observe venus. Hypatia had self-awareness and when they tried to shut her off. started a war.India was one of her children who was given to love Wolfram. Mother was trying to survive and ended up using part wolfram for parts. India was devasted and closed down for over a year. Later showed her mother the feelings that she had. the Next story takes place on Earth 18 yrs before heir of mars. Asher and his girl friend are both trying to get out. Asher is going to go to Mars. Victoria wants to go to boonies and get away from all the computers and technolgy andthey cant convince eath other to thier plans. Victoria gets into a bike accident. The next story is one day before Heirs of Mars starts off.worker is fixing a windmill and finds a cloner and he and his friends try to beat him up or kill him.Which is Asher. the worker talks about life on mars and his family life. the stories all tie together and go with Heirs of Mars the full novel. where everyone one is tring to survive, humans, clones and robots. It is a well rounded world he has created. I read it right through. I was given the ebook for free in exchange of honest review. Heirs of Mars is a science fiction novel that explores a world on Mars consisting of humans, AI, and clones. The AI machines are at war with the humans even though a treaty was signed by the AI leader. Cloner’s are humans that have the ability to clone other human’s minds and put them in artificial human like bodies. This technology was created to allow the humans to continue colonizing the planet despite a population decline. Dr. Asher Radescu is a geologist and a cloner and the book revolves around his trying to live after the loss of his daughter by an attack on his settlement by the AI. The author uses other characters in the book to explore the consequences of a war and cloning on a society. The book flows smoothly for the most part and you find yourself interested in what happens to Asher. The author effectively describes a new world and makes you feel as if you were there. He also does a good job in exploring people’s decision making processes and how those decisions can affect others around them. I would suggest this book to anyone who enjoys reading about other planets while learning a little bit about human nature. This review was written for LibraryThing Member Giveaways. I enjoyed reading this book as I had been having trouble getting into the Heirs of Mars and it had helped in my understanding of the plot of the story and how the characters got to where they were. As these were not the sort of books I usually read I was pleasantly surprised and am very much looking forward to more book(s) along the same storyline and finding out what happens next. Adorably, their names correspond roughly to the setting of each story, and create a nice triumvirate (Heaven, Earth, Hell). Be warned though, these stories are quite short, I blew through them in one sitting. There are two ways to evaluate "Heirs of Mars: Preludes": as a stand-alone anthology and as an expansion of the original novel. I enjoyed the set of short stories as an expansion because I wanted to hear more about the characters. Naturally anyone who liked "Heirs of Mars" will enjoy these stories as well. However I do think it's possible for someone to enjoy them without having read the novel. Lewis does make a point of developing India, Victoria and Neil enough that they can breathe without the life support of the original book, although I don't think they'd be as rewarding a read. The dream that was Mars has become a nightmare for the children born there. Asher roams the vast canyons of Mars in search of dying souls ready for digital reincarnation. But his strange profession has its perils. Those who fear the newborn clones have hunted Asher and his friends for years, claiming the lives of countless innocents, including his daughter. Claudia hosts the two most popular shows on two worlds, exhausting herself to educate the children of Mars and risking her life to raise the morale of the entire population. But when one of her cohosts is brutally murdered, she'll stop at nothing to avenge his death and make Mars safe again for everyone. Brought together in a moment of tragedy, Asher and Claudia lead a group of scientists and refugees across frozen deserts and over raging volcanoes to end the first war on Mars and save the fragile world they now call home. Heirs of Mars follows the lives of six men and women (not all of them entirely human) from the dusty wind farms of the Valles Marineris to the shining city of New Troy, and from the ancient tunnels beneath the Noctis Labyrinth to the sandy highways where daredevils race on single-wheeled motorcycles for a fleeting glimpse of fame and freedom. Bonus Content: This special edition also includes all three short stories from the collection Heirs of Mars: Preludes. These stories tells the tale of the origins of cybernetic life orbiting Venus, the future of life on Earth, and the details of the attack on Asher Radescu that begins the novel on Mars.
