This book was compiled of narratives and essays about what it means to be a man or a woman within different cultural, religious, and socioeconomic communities. It explored the dimensions of sex, gender, and sexual orientation from varying perspectives, and allowed me to step into the shoes of Hispanic women, working class fathers, and Black lesbians (and much more), and gave me insight into their reality. The various personal narratives gave the book an emotional component that made the experiences and theories presented even more viciously and vibrantly real. This book was intellectually and emotionally exhausting in the very best way. ~Melissa W.
