Stevenson is straight forward, maybe a little too tell-y vs. show-y, but the content is so good. If you've ever struggled with your vices, then this is the book. It contains so much good food for thought. My first real exposure to this story was actually the BBC miniseries Jekyll where the writers more explicitly made Hyde a manifestation of love, which was a lot of fun to think about as I read this novella as well. This honestly just feels like one of those foundational stories that I can enjoy in any iteration. It speaks to me in a big way. My book came with 8 stories, some good and others not really. I read "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "The Bottle Imp" before and I really liked them. My ratings are: "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" - 4/5 I really like this one. It is a classic with the main theme of good and evil. "Markheim" - 3.5/5 This one was also really good. I specially liked the ending even though it was a bit predictable for me. "Thrawn Janet" - 2/5 This was challenging to read and the story made me feel like it was not worth it. It was ok, but I would be fine without reading it. "Olalla" - 3/5 This story let me down. The beginning was so good I was expecting something more, something greater. It never came. It was still good, but the beginning was excellent and the rest couldn't keep up. "The Bottle Imp" - 4.5/5 My favorite story in this book. It felt like a fairy tale - a great one. "The Isle of Voices" - 2/5 Cannibals! I was bored most of the time... "The Body Snatcher" - 3/5 For science! Also a little boring. "The Waif Woman" - 3/5 A great tale of greed, envy and stupidity. I liked the part about the author's life and works that was also in my book. Overall, it was good and the stories were well chosen since it included the most famous works of Robert Louis Stevenson. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

That being said, each of the stories captured (or didn't capture) my attention for different reasons. Sometimes it was the gothic vibes to the story, sometimes it was the actions of the characters, sometimes it was the way the characters spoke to others. But, there was no one story that stood out.
Ultimately, I'm glad I read it, but overall just an okay book in my opinion. ( )
