It was more about the idiosyncracies of opera than Granny Weatherwax’s headology. I liked the beginning and ending best (the witches in Lancre), and the bits featuring Lord Gribeau and Death. ( )

How I empathized with Agnes, cursed with a good personality and nice hair, instead of a trim figure and a pretty face. Knowing that she was always expected to be calm and sensible and capable, resenting it, and yet unable to help herself in always being the calm and sensible and capable one in a crisis. What young woman wouldn’t be horrified to see her own future in Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax? And yet, there is certainly power in embracing your true self.

I’m a little sad that there’s only one more book in the Witches series from the Discworld books. So far, this one is my favorite.

Più o meno a metà della lettura di questo libro (in inglese, perché ancora non è stato tradotto in Italia) è arrivata la notizia della scomparsa di Terry Pratchett. Ho proseguito lentamente, gustandomi per la prima volta in lingua originale, tutti i giochi linguistici per cui lo scrittore era famoso. Maskerade è un libro un pò più dark della media dei libri di Pratchett, ma pieno di ironia come al solito e di argute massime sulla vita. Vorrei sottolineare, ancora una volta, l'assurdità del fatto che in Italia non sia ancora stata pubblicata la sua opera completa. Ma, in questo caso, confido sulla macabra tradizione dell'editoria in generale, di pubblicare o ripubblicare alla velocità della luce tutti i libri degli scrittori appena scomparsi.
RIP Terry e come già detto da Rowizyx... spero che Morte se ne prenda cura come merita.

Questo libro è tradotto così male, ma così male, che faccio fatica a continuare... anche perché mi viene il nervoso ad ogni pagina. Inoltre, avendolo letto in originale, mi sono accorta che nella traduzione sono stati saltati interi capoversi, quindi nella maggior parte dei casi si perde l'intero senso del discorso. Com'è possibile che una casa editrice come la Salani faccia uscire una traduzione così di m.....???
Abbandono la lettura, per riprenderla in lingua originale.
Questo libro è finito direttamente nella carta straccia.

So refreshing! So hilarious! A wonderful escape to another world. Nigel Planer is an exceptional narrator! You notice his improvements if you read the text along with the audio. I'm still laughing at my memories of this great book. A much needed lift from the other things I was reading just before this. Thank you Terry Pratchett and Nigel Planer! You really made my day! I wish y'all could live forever! ( )
