The world you know is perceived to be a big place, the solar system is even bigger, the universe is bigger still, but if you compare that to my dimension, it is tiny but as size is all relative not entirely insignificant, though fairly dull if you compare it to the many others. Most people will only ever be able to perceive their own dimension and so they stay pretty fixed in their own world, but occasionally some individuals are set free and they enter into a whole new way of thinking. Shattering everything they ever knew, to a life style they could never comprehend, and for one young girl it was just about to start of a journey from which she could never return. This young girl appeared to be an ordinary girl, a girl much like any other. A girl that could have quite easily have been living next door to you, you might have even past her on the streets. She lived as thousands, possibly millions, of other teenage girls do, with the normal hopes, fears and concerns. Until one crucial day, something happened that would change everything, not just in her life, but in everybody else's. A chain of events started that would ultimately decide the fate of the human race, despite the fact that very few of them where aware of our existence. This girl was called Charlotte Luna Pitch, and this history altering day was when she finally joined the world of shadows. She entered a dimension, a dimension called Indention, where she would join a superior race of beings. The Shadows. She would find herself combating the human race against all the odds, while discovering her connection to her elements and allowing her to free the powers she within her. But ultimately she discovered something that is irreplaceable...... Love. Charlotte finally getting used to the new dimension she was thrown into, is then torn from it, returning to her old one; where she now has to hide her newly discovered powers, while trying to help her Masters achieve world domination. It would all be in a day's work if it wasn't for her trying to keep her new love alive with her mentor Athelo, as rival Emily is starting to submerge, who helps put their love to the test, along with Charlottes own abilities, but only her true inner strength will pull her through the troubled times ahead, through war and loss. Will the fabric that holds our dimensions together break with the sudden disruption? Win or lose she would not; could not, ever be the same.… (mais)

Startling, yet cliched...

The story is quick to capture one's attention, yet the drama soon turns to fluff in its abundance of super-natural occurances and extreme descriptions. Yes, it tries hard to come across as "magical realism" in the purest Latin American form; however, it eventually reads like cliched kiosk litterature. By the end of the novel I was simply tired of reading about those magnificent emerald eyes and pomegranate lips...
The incestous plot could have been just as interesting without the parties being such captivating beauties and "extreme" in all their actions. Even the repetitious love-making scenes are described with the nuance of Danielle Steele...
The story does include interesting elements of the struggle to be of South American origin living in the US, and the descriptions of the contrast between those who consider themselves "exiles" and those who remain "Cuban-to-the-bone" are colorful.
Overall a quick, but ultimately unsatisfying read. ( )
