- Library History:
The Rockville Public Library Inc. was incorporated in 1893. The library was first located in Elm Street at the Hartford Bank Trust Company building from 1895 till 1904. The current library on Union Street was opened in 1904 in memory of the late George Maxwell with bequest & endowment from him. In 1967, the library was greatly renovated & around that time, the new children's wing was added to better serve the population of their citizens in which Vernon was becoming more of a bedroom suburb. In 2002, they made their renovations to the Adult Department to better maximise the use of technology for their 21st century use, but still, their original interior had pretty much been unchanged. Once again, they made another round of renovations in the recent years, having reopened in 2014. Their official Teen area was used for the first time in 2016, when they hired their first librarian of their Teen Department.
